Reviewed By Sean RThe staff were cool. The hotel had bikes and it was a short cycle into the town through pleasant parks and housing. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the price was great. All the shared facilities were clean. A well stocked supermarket within a couple of hundred meters and the boarding house's modern, well maintained kitchen make this ideal for a self catering stay.

Honestly, maybe my worst tourist experience.
Reviewed By Nurit BThis hotel charged my credit card without my permission for no good reason! There were several incidents that led me to understand that the hotel manager does not care at all about his customers - just about seizing every opportunity to get their money. The worst incident was that they charged me 150 Euros (!!!) just because my room key accidentally stayed with me after checkout. THEY made the mistake of checking me out without asking for the key (they didn't even notice until I called to tell them when I found it with me), THEY told me it was ok to mail it to them on the next day (which I did, on my own expense), and THEY didn't make sure they have a spare key. Still somehow they decided I should pay for this. I RECOMMEND TO STAY AWAY OF THIS HOTEL. You can never know what they will decide to charge you for...

ANOTHER FAMILY MEMORY FOR THE TREASURE CHEST

The restaurant was very popular so I would recommend booking a table in particular at the weekend. The Schiff is located a couple of trams stops outside the City Centre on the Littenweiler Tram, it was a wonderfully relaxed way to arrive on such a balmy Freiburg evening. To start our evening we decided to share a bottle of Winzersekt Pinot Brut while we chose from a substantial menu. Premises were cosy but the tables were somewhat closely packed. Removing the odd table can add so much to the dining experience of not being "Hemmed In", and in the long run probably increases trade, so be bold remove a couple of tables, everybody wins in the end. Service was friendly and the food served promptly, well presented and hot, good portion size too. Really enjoyed the Venison. The Rack of Lamb was a firm favourite of the rest of the family. Good atmosphere and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at a competitive price. Would visit again, has the potential to go from Good to Excellent.

Reviewed By Neil LGood double room with one occupant. No fridge or airco so not good for summer. Room had outside blinds so was totally dark and a good temperature for a good night sleep. It had a covered car park but no security. Breakfast was just a cold buffet but quite good.

This place is for those who are traveling through car and need to stay overnight. For those who want to enjoy the county side and need a cost effective option for stay. I had some problem with the manager there for communication in English though she was able to speak in English. But definitely worth a stay overnight.

nice place with good restaurant but....
Reviewed By rachelyaelwe arrived on the evning after we booked abd paid through hotels.com. we got a room in the 2 floor. the room was small but compare to the bathroom it was big! we decided to have dinner in thr restaurant of the place. in the morning when we checked out' they made a bill and charged us again for the room. only after we paid and asked for a receit they gave us back the money they allresdy got from booking.com

Nice location including parking
Reviewed By minn_traveler612I found this place in a Lonely Planet guide for a Dec 2012 stay. Clean room on the 3rd floor (US style) that took a little time to warm up. Fantastic breakfast the next morning. Parking was in a ramp across the street, a little complicated, but the proprietor's excellent English language skills made it quite manageable. Only downside was the 15 minute walk into town, but the quick departure to the highway compensated.

Reviewed By 256archiedEine Perle in Freiburg. Wir waren als Paar in der Linde und haben das Menü gegessen. Chef Rischmeyer hats drauf: man ißt nicht einfach - man fühlt und schmeckt und genießt. Immer wieder mussten wir fragen: "Was ist da dran? Es ist überraschend und wir kommen nicht drauf...." mal war es Frucht, mal ein dezent passendes Gewürz. Vielen Dank für diese tolle Küche!

Great location, awesome staff, awkward entrance
Reviewed By Oriley2013This hotel was awesome. The room was large for a German hotel and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. I also recommend eating at the restaurant whether you are staying at the hotel or not - the meal we had there was delicious. Our one and only complaint was how awkward it was to get to the room. We had to walk through the full restaurant and through the staff break area to get to the CREAKY stairs. We stayed in a room overlooking the patio which was very busy at times but the noise never bothered us (might bother some people). Overall - the location of the hotel is perfect for exploring Freiburg and we would probably stay here again.
