The Ship pub and restaurant offers extensive al fresco & restaurant dining within the heart of Plymouth's historic Barbican. Situated on the harbour side in Plymouth's beautiful Barbican area The Ship is in the perfect location to relax under the parasols

I dislike restaurants that make you do the work. Order and pay, remember your table number, collect your cutlery and condiments on the way while carrying your drinks... and I dislike it even more when the food is not good. The Ship is too expensive for the limited level of service. The fish was over cooked and greasy. It’s trading on its Harbourside location and the sign on the glass partition stating best fish and chips in Britain is misleading. It was just part of the competition. For good fish and chips with table service at a great price go to Harbourside a street back.

Been tonight. Very loud music. Not possible to have a conversation. Staff not interested. Was told if I didn't like it there were other pubs nearby. Rip off merchants. £1.20 for a bag of crisps when the George is £1. Also drinks about 20p over the cost at the George.Thank you for your feedback. I have noted your comments about disinterested staff (something that is very unusual for us as you will see from other reviews) and I will address this with the team.Your review states you visited on 22 August when we had no live music in the pub? Although it also suggests that it was a visit back in June. The Brook is a big open plan pub and music venue - and when we do stage live music we make sure it is never too loud for customers to have a conversation (unless, perhaps, you stand right in front of the speakers) with the possible exception of the evenings when we stage ticketed events and the people who come along are there for that purpose. Our prices reflect our costs. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your visit.Best wishesJohn and the team.

Myself and my partner have visited here many times now, at different times of the year - winter, summer and everything in between. The pub itself is nice and the setting even better, but there’s something really bizarre and not right about this place - every time we’ve been, without fail, there have been reserved signs on every single table there. A couple of others were darted about the place eating meals, so we asked about food just to make sure there weren’t any free tables in the back somewhere that hadn’t been reserved. The barmaid said that ALL the tables were booked up and that if we wanted food we’d have to sit perched up on bar stools at the bar (not very comfortable or appropriate for a meal), but that the chef probably wouldn’t agree to do us anything anyway (as they were supposedly booked up). Anyway, as the night went on (we stayed until close) we noticed that NONE of the tables with reserved signs were actually being occupied - at all - by anyone. Now, we’re talking a hell of a lot of tables here. And not one person actually showed up and sat at any of the tables. I mentioned this to my partner and noticed one of the bar staff look over sheepishly, and when we thought about it for a second we realised that every single time we’ve been here and they’ve turned us away for food, nobody has actually ended up occupying ANY of the many ‘reserved’ tables we’ve never been allowed to sit at. It became clear that for whatever reason, we had been lied to. Now, why the pub don’t want to serve us food or let us sit at a proper table - who knows, but to blatantly lie to customers like that and have fake reserved signs everywhere forcing us to sit on bar stools is just rude, unnecessary, and really quite strange. If you don’t want to do food then don’t advertise it as a food-serving pub, or just be honest with people, rather than this weird little tactic to deter customers. Very unprofessional.
