I often pass this Inn at the beginning of the week when they aren't open. Today we came specially to have a taste. A warm welcome from the 'scouse' barman. Inside is larger than you imagine with lots of dining areas. We found a table in a snug.Good selection of ales. The menu covers everything, we only wanted a snack so chose the roasted vegetable with homous salad with a side order of chips. It arrived promptly and was well presented with a good portion of chips. The food was delicious. Other tables had equally appetising dishes. As I said our waiter was great, I just felt that some of the other staff seemed more orientated to regular customers, natural in some ways but a little off-putting. I reserve judgement till next time. Will return for a full meal next time. The prices seemed reasonable for the quality.

We were a party of 40 and after an excellent lunch,(i have dined here many times in the past and have never been disappointed ) were taken on a tour of the witches area with the most entertaining guide I have ever had. He had no notes and spoke for two hours and really got us all interested in the trials etc of the notorious witches. This was organised by the Calf's head and if you able to enjoy this experience in the future I thoroughly recommend it.

Coach & Horses Restaurant

Reviewed By Tommo775

We decided to book the Coach and Horses at Bolton by Bowland for Sunday tea, this was based on previous visits and the high standard of food we had previously sampled. O dear were we in for a shock and huge disappointment. Upon arrival there was no one to greet you and thankfully it wasn’t busy. We had a drink at the bar and announced our arrival to Simon the bar manager, it appeared that there was a distinct lack of staff behind the bar as I only saw Simon serving alcohol the whole time. We made our way to the reception desk but stood there for what seemed an age. We could hear hilarity in the kitchen people singing, laughing and could see them through the glass door but nobody came to attend to us or show us to our table. One of us began to approach the kitchen door when Simon who had obviously seen us waiting there left his bar duties and he very kindly showed us to our table. I was the surprised when he returned and took our order despite 2 waitresses that appeared from the kitchen. It appeared that Simon was doing the job of at least 3 people. We all ordered Roast beef and it came with the usual trimmings. The beef was fine but the Yorkshire puddings were like huge crisps and had obviously been stood all day, the roast potatoes had little taste and had the appearance of being microwaved with very hard skins. The veg was adequate but luke warm but edible. Overall the food was warm not hot but we were that hungry we ate it as we couldn’t complain as nobody came back to the table for an age and when they did we had finished it and I said it was okay but wasn’t asked to elaborate. If we had waited all 3 meals would have been stone cold. The stickey toffee pudding came and it was just ginger and gooey not very good and so we did decide to say something and pointed out the faults but we were told sorry but I can’t do anything now you said it was okay, we asked if the bill could reflect the poor quality but the reply came I don’t have the authority which I accepted but surely the better response would have been I will pass it to the manager. I have been told that the main chef does not work on a Sunday so this is a real consideration when thinking of dining here there is clearly a difference as this has been said by more than one person. I did not see the owners that day and it may well be the case of on a Sunday whilst the cats away or perhaps just an off day? Hugely disappointing as it is a lovely place in a great setting and a lot of hard work has gone into restoring it. We will not be dining here on a Sunday anytime soon. There is a real case for customer service training here.Hello Tommo,Your review of course, makes us all at the Coach and Horses very sad. We rarely have complaints and your mail is a surprise. All our food is freshly cooked. The beef is slowly roasted overnight, otherwise all is cooked freshly. We do not use a microwave to cook our Sunday Roast dinners. We make our Yorkshire puddings crispy rather than soft, this is our preference and we have few if any complaints about them. Our vegetables are cooked to order, from the pan to your plate, so I have no idea how they can be cold. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is one of our most popular desserts, and has no ginger in the recipe. Again I can only assume it is a matter of taste. To address your comments about our team are more difficult. Simon is a super manager and your service team on Sunday have been with us for a long time and again we do not have complaints about the service. Our team in the kitchen is trained by our Head Chef and the quality is constant. The owner was available in the morning. It is such a shame I left early or I could have answered your comments personally. We know you have dined with us before and sincerely hope you will give us the opportunity to serve you as you know we can. with kind regards, sue lord

Visited the Lower Buck for Sunday lunch. Slight issue in parking but managed to find a space further along the road.We booked a table, which was ready for us on our arrival. The food & service was outstanding!!We ordered steak pies, one with chips, mushy peas & gravy the other with new potatoes, veg & gravy. Washed down with a very nice glass of rose. We commented that we could not fault the food! Unfortunately we were overcharged quite considerably on the bill, this was quickly rectified. We will most certainly be back!Thank you for choosing The Lower Buck for Sunday lunch. Parking, if busy, can also be found further down the village at the village playing fields, glad you did get a space on the roadside. We have passed your kind comments on to the chefs and front of house staff as they love hearing from our customers, so thank you for your lovely comments about the food and service. Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our independent country pub as it makes a huge difference to our small pub.We look forward to welcoming you back when you are next in Waddington. Thank you for your five-star review, much appreciated.

After yet another great day looking around Clitheroe, we decided to finish the day off by having our tea at the Edisford Bridge Hotel. And very nice it was too. My wife ordered roast beef, hot gravy, warm baguette with salad. I ordered creamy Lancashire cheese with onion, salad and chutney. We shared a bowl of chips and also went 50/50 with our meals. We each had half of the other's baguette. Beautiful!!Serendipity seemed to be guiding our hands yesterday! No matter what we thought of seemed to have a surprise in the tail! We had a really splendid day after taking the nuclear option of hitting Clitheroe, unable to meat up wiv our besties, who turned out to be busy! The pub is a lovely, country-type building. It's olde worlde but it's also bright and clean. We've tried the main meals before and reviewed them. Yesterday we tried the sandwich menu and were definitely not disappointed. The range of beers, including zero alcohol, is good.Prices are acceptable and there is ample parking.

Bit delayed writing this review. We held a 70th birthday party in the orchard room for 13 adults and 5 young children. From start to finish, the service, food in fact everything was excellent. They were fantastic with the children. Nothing was too much trouble.Subsequently went to the oyster evening. Tried oysters for the first time, with a glass of fizz, they were ok. Afterwards we went into the restaurant and off the specials we all had the grouse. Reasonable price and it was lock the plate delicious. This is my favourite place, love itThank you so much for this, glad you enjoyed the birthday party and indeed the Friday night festival, I've still got a puncture wound in my hand from opening a Colchester oyster. Glad you enjoyed the grouse too, more in next weekI hope. Thanks again. Regards Cb

Enjoyed lunch with a friend. Started with the asparagus wrapped in ham and served with a crispy egg - delicious. Main course was duck breast with dauphinoise potatoes and gorgeous creamy cabbage with bacon. Duck was slightly over-cooked for my taste, but still very good. Couldn't manage dessert. Lovely spot for lunch. Haven't been for a while, it was good to return.
