Went for surprise tasting/wine menus, and while everything was good, I wasn't blown away. It was the Sat. after the snow, but despite companions asking if deliveries were topped up, there were a few elements repeating throughout courses, e.g. pickled veg/shimeji mushrooms. Tuna carpaccio tasty, scallops looked and tasted lovely, with a quenelle of kale in a buttery roe/shellfish? sauce (gave us a spoon and mopped rest with bread) but the ubiquitous foie gras/turbot/venison trio were a bit uninspired...tasted fine, but presentation lacked finesse (compared to professional photos on site)...also, there was a bit of candied Seville orange in with the venison that overpowered...and being Irish, would have loved some Pommes Purée! Choc fondant was perfect inside, but found outside a bit suety tasting. Cheese board was a Comté, Sainte-Maure de Touraine? and an Epoisse...all fine, but served cold. Lovely double espresso and raspberry macaroons were nice. Interesting mix of wines throughout - had my first sweet red, which was nicer than it sounds! Liked stemware/crockery/cutlery, but metallic orange water glasses are just wrong...like to see what I'm drinking.
I've marked down to average because of price...essentially, their sample menu online read better...expectations were high...a bit too rustic pour moi! Place has had a refurb, but is still a bit brown/dated looking. To finish on a positive, staff all friendly/relaxed/professional.

Saw the reviews on TA and had to give it a go, wasn’t disappointed, was everything I had read, gorgeous small restaurant with a lovely feel to it, warm and friendly staff and very attentive, food was delicious and was such quick service, good size portions. 5 * highly recommend this brasserie.

China Sichuan Restaurant

From Georgina Campbell's Ireland GuideThis restaurant has been Ireland’s benchmark Chinese restaurant for two generations, and is a previous recipient of this award. It should in perhaps be named The Phoenix as, not long after moving to new premises, this family-owned favourite closed last winter and appeared to be a victim of the recession. Then, to the delight of its many fans, it reopened in the summer of 2010 after a six month hiatus. And, to a collective sigh of relief, it soon transpired that its modern interpretations of classic Sichuan cuisine are better than ever: classic dishes like tea smoked duck have been tweaked and given updated presentation by the brigade of young chefs who are reinterpreting traditional Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine with modern style. A special section of "Chef's Recommendations" highlights the kitchen's authentic Sichuan dishes based on centuries old recipes – and well-versed servers explain dishes and their ingredients, offering to tone down the amounts of chilli oil, Sichuan pepper and hot oil, if requested. The layout of the modern dining room has been improved too - and, on fine days, the glass frontage opens onto an inviting outdoor Terrace with umbrella tables and Seating.

13:15 Tuesday in March.
Just up from the Luas stop. First time here.
Seated immediately. Drinks offered next, then the menu order was taken.
One spare rib (large portion arrived!) one very nice mushroom dish......dried with wassabi (very nice).
One boiled rice, one noodles (€2.40 extra), one prawn in black bean sauce, and one pork in ginger sauce. Both mains were exceptionally well flavoured. Not the soupy run of the mill chinese restaurant. Exceptionally flavoured. The Pork dish wad huge!
Two chinese beers. All for €44.50 (see the photo). Really very, very good.
We will return and start trying the rest of the lunch menu. Then we wil start on the a la carte.
We will be back next week.
Check it out .... recommended. Probably the best oriental restaurant in Dublin.

Booked the restaurant after our son have visited.
Checked-menu and found it very limited and hoped I’d like the food.
Arrived early and went upstairs and we waited the fire and had some drinks, great atmosphere to start.

Zizzi

Ate here on Sunday 17 September, 2017, on a whim - was looking for something different.
Struck on entry by the fact that it was noisy and cold. Lighting quirky, and the lights threw loads of shadows on the table, which made it difficult to read the menu. Kitchen is at the back of the restaurant. This means that the extractor fans suck cold air in through the front door and make the dining area cold and draughty. However, that is the only negative comment I have.
Interesting menu.
Helpful staff, and (1) there are enough staff to provide decent service, and (2) the staff seem to watch for customers who are trying to make eye contact.
Food well presented and seasoned, and most importantly, it tasted good. Food prepared where customers can see it - reassuring from a hygiene perspective.
Restrooms were absolutely spotless. I used the disabled toilet and the men's room, and both were clean.
Background music almost inaudible.
Decent sized Coca Cola 330 ml.
Generally a positive experience, but the cold draught near the front door was very noticeable. I'd recommend to anyone offered seats near the door that they wait until other seats become available, and I'd hope that Zizzi might install a heater just above the door to minimise the impact of the cold draught.
Better than other nearby pizza offerings. I hope to return.

Gorgeous little restaurant off Main Street Dundrum. Found it as looking for a place with a good vegan menu for my husband. This place had it, along with an extensive 'normal' menu too. The onion bhajis were the best I've ever had and we both had burritos for main which were gorgeous. It's byob which really saves money, and the waiter/owner was so helpful, attentive and funny. The decor isn't high end but when the food is, it doesn't matter. Will definitely be back.
