Fantastic

We had a fantastic trip from start to finish. The reception staff gave us a list of garda vetted babysitters for us and oh what a lovely lady we had in Deirdre id highly recommend her. We stayed for our brothers wedding and our baby sitter couldnt make it last minute. The banqueting staff was fantastic especially Christian as he was waiting on the table with the most amount of kids (which can be tricky) he made each and every child feel grown up as he was so attentive to there every need as my niece said “i need only look at him and he was filling my water glass” spoken by a 10year old. He made sure to keep all the hot food away from the babies. Clearly a lot of training had been given to the waiting staff to serve from the right. The facilities were great too having the petfarm on site was a huge bonus when the heads were a bit fuzzy and in need of fresh air and the pool to unwind. We will definitely be back again on a family trip and all ready looking forward to our stay next year for yet again another wedding

Bizarre place, the 5star experience!

We booked a suit for 1 night, for my partners birthday. Arrived at 3.30 room not ready till 4, no problem or so we thought... Handed in my bag with all our stuff in it and went for a steak sandwich with chips(for 20 something euro) that were not fully cooked through, still no problem. Got the call the room was ready and we were all set to enjoy the the pool and spa etc, we were told the bag was in the room so off we went, no bag in the room so I rang down and we told we'll send it up, a half an hour later, went down to get the bag and the fun began. "It's in an unoccupied room" I was told. Can I go get it? No well drop it up. An hour later ,no bag. We couldn't do anything because all our stuff was in the bag. Got to half 8 in the evening, having listened to it's in an unoccupied room now about 15 times, so I asked do I have to call the guard's about this, all of a sudden they sprung into action the bag landed shortly after. Leisure center closed now I said you'll have to knock alot off the €350 (with no dinner) price of the room, as the evening/night is ruined. They didn't care!!!!, The manager actually laughed handing back the bag saying it was actually in an occupied room, which made my blood boil all together. In the end I decided I threaten to leave to get some money back ,again they didn't care. So off back to Mayo we went at 10 o'clock at night with our tails between or legs wondering what just happened. I took a while to wright this because I was waiting to hear anything from the 5star staff at Lyrath estate and true to form they didn't care and that never came. They made us feel like fool's and maybe we were for going there.

Decent hotel in a good central location

Reviewed By John A

Our first visit to Kilkenny and we opted for the Ormonde because of its central location. This is a large hotel with ease of access to the oldest part of the city by foot. The central part of the hotel is large with a comfortable sitting area which serves lunches and coffee throughout the day. We especially enjoyed the tradition of serving a slice of lemon cake with a coffee in the afternoons. There are two main restaurant rooms. Savour is the breakfast room and Horans serves dinner in the evenings. We enjoyed the breakfasts which are typically generous and set us up for the day. On each evening of our 3 day stay we booked a table in Horans for dinner. The food was gorgeous and the helpings were ample. The en suite rooms were a good size with plenty of storage and a well appointed bathroom. The only downside was the overheated room throughout the night which made sleeping difficult. We had a room on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel which was never quiet. Even with the windows open there was no cooling, and no sleeping after 7.30am when the kitchen extractors started. Overall we enjoyed our stay and if I were to return I would request a front facing room.

Excellent as always

Reviewed By johndH9143BP

I have stayed at Mount Juliet several times over the past year. Each stay seems to exceed the previous one (which is impressive as they are consistently excellent). The Lady Helen is outstanding (food quality, service, and atmosphere). The Hound is also excellent in the same regard. The rooms are beautifully maintained and house keeping is as close to perfect as you can get. The most outstanding aspect is the staff. Across the board, everyone seems to excel at customer service. A special thanks to Laura who is the Front Office Manager for her commitment to insuring each guest has an outstanding stay. I am really looking forward to my next visit.

It's a historic house turned hotel. Lovely place with gorgeous adjoining gardens. Charming and romantic. Rooms were well appointed and mine had a view across the gardens. Centrally located at a stones throw from the Castle which can be reached just walking out of the back garden. Has its own car park from the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was fresh and served to order. Definitely would stay again if am in Kilkenny.

A fantastic wedding venue

Reviewed By Brian M

We recently stayed at the Avalon House Hotel for a family wedding. What a fantastic place. The courtyard was perfect for a sunny drinks reception and the main function room had plenty of glitz and glamour. The staff were attentive, friendly and very welcoming. The food was fantastic, and the army of waiting staff did a fantastic job. We stayed in a beautiful room overlooking the courtyard. The hotel is decorated to a high standard, with excellent quality materials. Although a modern hotel it has the elegance and sophistication in keeping with the older parts of the main building and the history of the town itself. It is situated beside the fantastic Castlecomer Discovery Park, located just across a beautiful new pedestrian bridge, with lots of lovely walks. We were very impressed and will certainly be returning again as guests.

Wonderful!

Reviewed By 488megt

The first thing we noticed was the spectacular location - the home is set among 26 acres of fields. We were welcomed by Mary, who does a fantastic job at making you feel at home. After a quick walk around to stretch our legs, we settled into the Theatre Room with its painted ceiling, incredible bathroom, and view onto the fields. Ate dinner in the village that night at Mary's Cafe (a different Mary) - very traditional Irish food, with pints of Guinness from the pub up the street! Breakfast was made to order, don't miss out on the delicious brown bread (with plenty of butter!) Spent the day in Kilkenny - first stop was the Medieval Mile Museum, which really helped to understand why the city has been so important for centuries. After a short nap back at Grange Manor, Frank drove us back into Kilkenny for a great dinner at Campagne. We didn't want to risk driving on unfamiliar roads after splitting a bottle of wine at dinner - definitely a good idea. The next morning, another terrific breakfast, and Mary even packed a few extra scones for us to snack on for our drive back to Dublin. The gorgeous home, in a beautiful setting, coupled with Mary and Frank's warmth as hosts, made this a memorable stay!
