Poor, unfriendly and expensive service
Reviewed By SereniusPersonally I do not recommend this hotel for the simple fact that it is extremely expensive for what it is, compared to the very basic service they try to provide. I went there twice in a month, each time stayed 6 nights for business purposes. I can hardly remember a smile (with one exception, a gentleman working at the reception and who was the only helpful person there). The rest was just arrogance and full attitude, answering back before listening to the client, staff was hard to communicate with and unfriendly. We have rented a meeting room as well. They only came to clean it up after insisting several times. After discussing the matter, the receptionist simply said: you need to file a written complaint - like some bureaucratic procedure. Nobody apologies for letting us stay in a dirty (but expansive) conference room, moreover it was suggested it was our fault because we did not ask earlier or we locked it overnight. As a matter of fact, I did make a written complaint on our second day and got called back days later, after we already left. The hotel ground floor was secured from the outside with planks and metals due to some protests in the town - a situation which we had to accept. Therefore, the evening access was through a side garage entrance. As we arrived at this entrance, nobody was there. Tried to ring a bell for several minutes and suddenly we realized that the cable connection was cut off. So us, the paying guests, were locked outside in the cold with nobody to open us up. We got the idea to call the reception on our mobile and at some point the night guard in charge finally arrived. As I complained that it is not appropriate to let us wait outside in the night cold of the desert, he was just being more unfriendly and angry to us, of course with no apologies at all. We received a few days later (!) the explanation that the guard was doing his tour in the hotel, therefore he could not be present to open us the door. Restaurant is average and the service is poor. Breakfast is much better than the rest of the hotel, provided the restaurant manager is there (which unfortunately was not the case last time as he got sick). Rooms, on the other hand are large and the cleaning int he rooms is indeed very good. They have good quality towels and bed sheets. I also used the dry cleaning which was very fast (it only took a few hours). Again, for the price they are charging, I do not recommend it.

Very nice stay
Reviewed By SNG56Was here on a group tour. Rooms were comfortable, clean ans spacious with good wifi. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was excellent! They make a great pisco sour and a coupon for a free one was included with our room. Pleasant staff as well.

Reviewed By andrewjohnbelmontI am only writing this review for Manuel — this poor man had to put up with my mother during check in, she was not nice to him because he could not completely understand her. If you want to visit a Spanish speaking country, you should know Spanish, or at least have a translator, so all of the confusion was her fault. Manuel was so nice to all of us in spite of her ill temper. I saw him work almost every shift during my four night stay, and he was always friendly and willing to help. He even helped me during an awkward moment when I called the desk and in broken Spanish asked for bathroom supplies — he personally delivered in less than a minute. I would come back just for him! He might not be happy to see us, but I’d be happy to see him.

Terrible Hotel
Reviewed By Angelica TOn the way to Arica we need it a place to rest for the night, sleep at this pricey poor and run down Hotel. The floor of the rooms were disgusting dirty, bare foot was a NO NO, shower full of mould. Be lining old and wear out. Old blankets, old towels, breakfast poor, grumpy staff. Never again will stay there. Will seriously not recommend. The only good thing is parking, is secure under ground.

“Peaceful stay at Hotel Cumbres”
Reviewed By Sonia6869We spent 3 nights at hotel Cumbres for our San Pedro visit. Check in was smooth and front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Most of them spoke English. This hotel is about 5-10 minutes drive from the town. They have free shuttle going every 40 minutes to town. You will need to book the shuttle at least 15 minutes prior. Hotel rooms are huge with desert feel. Beds are comfortable and bigger than king bed. Bathrooms are with double sink and good size. Bathrooms has extra feature of outdoor shower which was nice. Shower pressure was low. Wifi was only available in the lobby and by the pool which was inconvenient. Hotel lobby is nice and inviting. Lobby bar is really nice. Hotel has one bigger and 2 small pools but the water was too cold to swim. There are 2 hot tubs with warm water which we used one day. We didn’t do all inclusive as we had tours planned for all three days and wouldn’t have used the services. We booked our tours from the town and cost us about 50000 Pesos. We weren’t able to have breakfast even for one day during our stay as two days we had early tours and third day we had to leave 4 hours early for our 9.45 flight. Hotel provides bagged lunch which was good to have. We did Astronomy tour at the hotel as it made sense not to go with other tours for 2-4 hours at night when you can do this at the hotel in an hour. We had one dinner at the hotel which was barbecue night. Food was not quality food. Chicken was chewy, ribs had no meat, steaks were also just ok. We didn’t enjoy it. We really liked the expresso coffee machine to have a drink before the tours. I had initially tried to book the hotel through their reservation which was more pricey and difficult to communicate. Then I ended up booking it through trip advisor which was priced way better. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend it.

Excellent hotel close to Copiapo
Reviewed By Benjamin SExcellent hotel complex, seperate cabins, has TV, Wifi, mini bar, large bathroom with its own gas hot water system. The cabin was clean and comfortable with heating and aircon. The cabins are arranged around a central pool, garden and common area. Tasty and substantial breakfast was included. The hotel is located in a quiet valley, just out of Copiapo, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves . The staff and owners were all very friendly and accomodating and contributed to a very pleasant stay.

Reviewed By xtravel42Friendly staff, spacious room, big windows, good heating, great bed, warm shower, free parking, big lobby, quiet, a delight after many nights in simpler accommodation. Breakfast is below par, though, and Wifi slow and signal bad in places. Nonetheless we extended our stay from one to four nights to explore the Laguna Santa Rosa N.P., the local museum, the Cerro Medanoso big dune and the San Jose mine, where 33 miners where rescued with the Fenix2 capsule after a two month mission on Oct, 13 2010.

Basic but friendly and practical
Reviewed By B7469TGkatebGreat base for exploring the Atacama but base is all it is... good value for money as very safe, comfortable and clean. The rooms were very small though, we were in a twin and the beds were so narrow! Not great if have bigger builds and the toilet room was so small you can barely stand up! However shower and cleanliness was 100%. Breakfast was the most basic and un adventurous I have ever had... false economy as so little mark up on things like pastry and breads all felt a bit stale and tired... service was good because we were treated on arrival by the delightful Miguel who was so friendly, warm and welcoming. Other than him though the staff didn’t speak a word of English and couldn’t really be bothered but were not unfriendly or surly. Overall I would be happy to stay again as very cheap and convenient.

Marcela and Sebastian went above and beyond making us feel welcome and at home.They provided knowledge of the surrounding area with a naturalistic love for their surroundings. We highly recommend Basecamp for getting away from the hustle of life and to enjoy the beauty of life.

Reviewed By otolithWe spent 2 very comfortable nights here whilst in Copiapó. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. We had a matrimonial suite which was big, spotless, had free wifi and hot water and was scrupulously cleaned daily. Beds were very comfortable. And all this for approximately US$40/night! Free parking and a 10 minute walk from the main square. Lots of restaurants around. Breakfast included. Highly recommended.
