The Fox Goes Free

Great food, average hotel

Reviewed By Timothy S

We had eaten here before and thought it would be a good idea to stay. In our room (no. 1) we found a note that the room was due for renovation. So guests can hope for better at some stage. The two bottom rows of the three row window glass is frosted so that guests can't easily see the utility yard below. See Yvieh's photo of 20/09/2015. You are pre-warned that the stairs to the rooms in the main building are a bit tricky but fine for the able-bodied. Having said that, the room itself is fine and has all the usual amenities. And both the situation of the Fox Goes Free and the exterior aspect are a delight. (See photos). The food is very good, as we found on our previous visit. A well chosen menu, well presented and all the dining areas a pleasure to be in. A good wine list.

Characterful property in a spectacular location within the Cathedral precinct. Cannot fault the rooms, which were clean and spacious, with very comfortable beds. Excellent power shower. Faultless really. Just be aware the price is room only and you'll need to go out for breakfast.

The George and Dragon

A town center pub that has retained its old-fashioned public-house charm, the G&D is located in the heart of picturesque Chichester. With its smart bar, conservatory dining room and converted barn-house accommodation, this friendly and comfortable pub is a great local meeting place.

A lovely Holiday Stay

Reviewed By markkG7856FB

The hotel is an easy walk from Chichester train station. Although in the town centre, the room was quiet, clean with a very comfortable bed. The price was very affordable, especially for a fancy tourist town such as Chichester. The breakfast was more than substantial. Most memorably, the staff were very friendly and accommodating with nothing too much trouble. We were treated more like friends than customers. Highly recommended.

Lockgate Dairy

Lockgate Dairy offers superb, 5-Star B&B accommodation. Once, a working dairy, Lockgate Dairy is set in rural, open farmland away from all busy roads. It is an ideal place for down time at the end of the business day, and a peaceful night's sleep. Road noise is banished, here. The extra little touches you'll notice and a hearty breakfast, the next morning, will see you right through. If you're in the zone more for pleasure rather than necessity, for a short break, then Chichester is famous for its cathedral, the Festival Theatre, the Novium Museum (based at a Roman bathhouse) and high quality restaurants of varied cuisines. With wide streets and plentiful parking, the town is one of the South's most pleasant shopping experiences, unusually, still dominated by independent shops and plentiful interesting architecture.Immediately surrounding Lockgate Dairy is flat countryside ideal for walking, cycling and exploring Chichester Harbour (sailing, boat tours) with numerous charming waters-edge hamlets and pathways, the expansive sandy beach of West Wittering and the nature reserve at Pagham.Drive just 15 minutes and you could be revving it up on the starting grid at Goodwood motor racing track or looking down Runway 33, about to launch into the skies from Goodwood airfield (formerly RAF Westhamptnet, a satellite WW2 airfield to RAF Tangmere where Hurricanes, Spitfires and Typhoons were once based.Drive a further 5 minutes you're into glorious South Downs scenery. There, Goodwood horse racing is a sure bet as is the amazing Weald and Downland Musuem.

Our front door kept blowing open even though it was a pull to lock door .. cleanliness was not great.. if we had known we would not have been close to our friends we would not have booked it as it made getting ready for the wedding and make up etc very hard all trying to cram into one ..
