Cool Place and Help When Needed

Reviewed By rldonovan

We stayed in the trullo pictured and our friends stayed in a room next door. Both were furnished to reflect a historical period. Each had all modern facilities and were quite nice. We had dinner there for 25 Euros each, including wine made on the property. Very nice meal of typical local food in great quantities finished by fresh baked goods. Breakfast was also very good, with fresh items and fruit arrayed in an extensive buffet. The highlight for us, however, was the host. We discovered after arrival that our car had a flat tire. He called "his" tire man who came out, dismounted the tire, repaired it within an hour, and remounted it so we were ready to go. I can't imagine how troublesome this would have been if the host had not been so willing to help. I will say that the rental car company (Hertz) was sympathetic but unhelpful.

Prices are right for the level of the hotel. I was satisfied and I highly reccomend it for a peaceful stay in the hills.

B&B Il Sogno di Pandora

"A Casa da Ermelinda" is an elegant Bed and Breakfast decorated with very personal details. The building still has all the characteristics of its time. The large and bright rooms all have star-vaulted ceilings and they are furnished with simple elegance. It is a place where ancient history blends perfectly with modern services and functionality. Indeed rooms are all different, each one has its own style which gives different sensorial emotions.... The jewel of the structure is our suite, a real feast of elegance and refinement.

Authentic but out of the way!

Reviewed By barb7torontotoronto

The owners are lovely people, very kind. The breakfast was much more than we were expecting, very good. The Trulli we stayed in was very small but because it was so quaint it was fine. There was no ac so I don't know what it would be like in the heat of summer. The pool was big but we did not go in as it has a slight greenish hue to it so we wondered if it was actually shocked properly. Did not want to get an infection. This B and B needs a bigger sign on the main road as it is very hard to find. Also I would actually recommend staying somewhere right in town as this place is out in no mans land.

Paradise reinvented - return was worth it!

We previously visited this property in 2015 when it was run by an an English family. We were very happy to see the Dutch owners continue the excellent standard and put their own stamp on it. Anja and Gerard were so warm and well organised! Nothing was too much trouble! The breakfast was out of this world, with signature dishes! Some healthy options, some indulgent treats, all fresh, local food, and always a home made star of the table made by Anja. We loved the new decor, modern yet cosy. The garden was beautiful and immaculately kept. Gerard allowed my little boys to have a look at an almond tree, and cracking up fresh almonds with stones is an experience my 4 year old still talks about a preschool. Kakis , olives, red soil, a mosaic of flowers ...what else could you wish for...a swimming pool, and it is pristine and large. There is a lot to see in the area, Trullis and the cave are the musts , but every little town is full of atmosphere and the landscapes are serene. A car is a must! Food is always excellent, not one exception, whether you go for budget or fine dining. Most places are mid-range, taverns, cafes and pizzerias, friendly service. Note the particular opening hours of venues though, follow your hosts advice and plan ahead a bit. And dont expect to get fed in the afternoon! A way out is cooking in the kitchen (charge applies), it is clean, perfectly equipped and a well stocked supermarket is only 5 min drive. The honesty bar has fair prices and a good selection of drinks, good idea. There are many books and brochures you can use and there is TV and free WiFi in all rooms. We used the family room, interconnecting rooms, very recommended for safety, privacy and convenience. Good for the kids, and good for Mummy and Daddy to have their own room. Cot provided is easy to move, so you can adjust easily to your familys sleeping arrangements. The rooms open up to the garden and have 2 bathrooms. Very clean, lovely decor in a building with history.Caring and helpful hosts, hoping to come back with our growing children to this home away from home! Other guests were friendly (all Dutch, but English speaking), and you could have a conversation, but place never was crowded. Good value, in particular off season (travelled early October, and previously early May). Honest people. You could spend 1-10 days there, I would recommend 1 week.
