Brno Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Brno

December 10, 2017 Toi Mattera

The charms of the Czech Republic's second-largest city may not be immediate, but spend a few days in this Moravian town and Brno's vibrant, authentic Czech ambiance will win you over. It's a fine way to experience Czech life without the teeming herds of tourists that visit Prague. Art Nouveau, Empire and Neoclassical buildings stand in the bar- and restaurant-packed old city center. Leafy parks abound. Be sure to get a photo with a local landmark, the suspiciously crocodilian Brno Dragon statue.

Stopkova Plzenska Pivnice

Excellent Czech cuisine, great atmosphere and best beer in Brno.

The famous Stopek’s Beer House has always been one of the pillars of Czech social and cultural life in Brno. There has been a pub here since the second half of the 19th century. It became famous with the arrival of the new owner, the genius Jaroslav Stopka, who took over the original Jonak’s Beer House in 1910. Period advertisements always declared that the best Pilsner beer could be had at Stopka’s. The pub retained its character and atmosphere even after its extensive modernisation. The author of the facade of the beer house is Czech painter and graphic artist Lada Novak (1865 – 1944), a well-know Prague bohemian and also the author of the decorations on the U Fleku Pub in Prague, was also repaired and renovated. Pilsner Urquell and dark Velkopopovicky Kozel and Birell Light are all on tap.

The place is very cozy, it’s kind of a brewery. But the food .... the food is amazing, you can also find good beer.
I’d recommend the onion soup, which has nothing to do with the one served in France so don’t be disappointed when you see it, it’s a different o onion soup, with bacon and garlic it is veeeery good. Also the goulash is excellent you have to try it!

This restaurant serves great food at good prices. French cooking style, but with a Chzech twist: very rich and tasteful sauces and meats. Not the everyday menu: homemade pate for example is not an average choice. Nice staff and good wine options.

Many fine dining restaurants have elaborate plating of their dishes, trying hard to impress but completely lacking the most important thing. How does it taste. Here at Koishi I have found every dish to be perfectly seasoned and exciting to eat at every bite. With various textures, flavours and temperatures that compliment each other in the finest way.
I was really impressed and left very happy indeed. Spending money on that kind of happiness is a joy.
So it's a thumbs up from me, and I hope this restaurant climbs the ranks of TripAdvisor to the place that it deserves.

We were in Brno staying at the Arte Hotel and were recommended to go to this restaurant by a gentleman at the hotel. It took a little finding and once there you descend to the basement. Although it was The feast of St Martin and they were very busy a table was found for us. The menu at that particular time was duck and goose based due the traditions of the season. I chose the duck liver starter followed by leg of goose with red cabbage and roast dumplings while my husband had duck pâté followed by breast of duck on roast winter vegetables. All the dishes were truely delicious. The staff were lovely and very helpful and the total cost of our meal including drinks was less than £30 which I consider to be excellent value for the level of cuisine served. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly.

Starobrno Brewery

I found a rather limited and somewhat boring selection of beers available on a Friday night, so instead I focused on the food, specifically duck, and thought of the beer as a nice accompaniment. I enjoyed a pâté of duck and a duck confit leg and tried three beers: Starobrno DRAK- extra hopped lager unpasteurized; Tradicini; and Krušovice Staročesky Malvaz. If you are a craft beer fanatic as I am then you will find these beers serviceable but nothing special. Both duck dishes were EXCELLENT and memorable.
The service was very good by Czech standards, and I noticed nearly all the guests were Czech on this evening, so the absence of foreign tourists was both reassuring and pleasant. It's a clearly a great place for group dining but I was happy and content here solo.

It is more like rock/metal club, where you go under the ground. Vegan meals are delicious. Meals are more stylized to Czech cousine meals, but in vegan way. I really love going there, because this pub has more atmosphere than classic vegan restaurant, as I...MoreThank You for this nice review and hope tou see You again.

Her knowledge about the drinks were great, and her recommendations were spot on, every time. Definitely a place a place to visit if you are into drinks :) Reasonably priced by Czech standards; cheap!

We came here for our son's graduation dinner with a large group of new graduates and their families. It's in the park very near the Janacek theatre. We sat in a garden room/marquee in very comfortable chairs and the setting is very relaxing. The bar staff were friendly and helpful. As a large group, we had to have a set menu with allowances for vegetarians, vegans and gluten free. The food is delicious and well presented. I didn't see the a la carte menu but one day I would like to go back and give it a try.
