Schloss-Hotel Braunfels

My wife is from New Braunfels, Texas, so her dream has been to go to Germany. We went to a number of places, including Braunfels, which is a quaint, lovely town. The castle is magnificent, as are the displays inside. Everything is in mint condition. The Braunfels Castle is a few minutes walk from the hotel. We were totally impressed with the castle and hotel. The hotel is very affordable. We stayed two nights. The hotel is charming and classy and dignified, as is Milo, who is in charge of the hotel during the day. Sarah, who is in charge at night, is also a very sweet person. The staff is friendly and wonderful, just as Milo and Sara are.We felt right at home. The breakfast is fantastic! We had cold cuts, eggs, yogurt, rolls, bread, juices and coffee. The Vogel ice cream/candy shop has wonderful lunches and desserts. Braunfels was like a fairy tale! We give the hotel and town the highest possible recommendation. Thank you all for the most wonderful time and memories!!!

Schroeders Guesthouse

Good location, spacious rooms

Reviewed By OCdR

Hotel Im Alten Forstamt (more a B&B) is situated in Braunsfeld, which is famous for it's medieval castle (one of the most beautiful in Germany). The castle is only a 10 minutes walk away from the hotel. Rooms in the hotel are spacious and all have there own theme. I had the Indie room, which was kind of Buddha-like decorated. The room has a large bathroom. Pity that one has to shower itself in the bathtub. Breakfast is extensive: partially buffet (yogurt, cereals, drinks) and partially served at your table (bread, meats, egg), with eye for detail. Good value for money.

Business trip to Oberbiel

Reviewed By Mvajones

Stayed here prior to a business meeting the next day in nearby Oberbiel. This is a much quieter town than than Wetzlar and is of historic interest if you have the time to look at the castle and half timbered houses. The hotel is a working brewery with bar and restaurant. Food is very good and large servings - not expensive. Rooms are large some with kitchen. Breakfast included in price. Free wifi in main building but not in rooms.

Parkhotel Furstenhof

Friendly hotel in the centre of the old town of Braunfels

Reviewed By Stradlingp

We stayed as a family of four in two rooms over a long weekend in August. The reception is not open all day in the week but there were numbers to call the owner posted on the door and he arrived in a matter of minutes. The Hotel is clean and modern and has a large lift that can access all three floors. The breakfast is buffet style and includes cold meat, cheese, various types of bread, jam, yogurt, fruit and fruit juices. A modern coffee machine supplies the expected selection of different types of coffee. Tea and hot chocolate are also available. There is also a restaurant which we didn't get the chance to try so I can't comment on that. The hotel bar is popular with hotel guests and locals and has both outdoor and in indoor tables. Boardgames and toys are available if the kids are stuck inside on a rainy day. The hotel owner also owns the local brewery and restaurant which is only 15-20 minutes walk away. I can heartily recommend both the beer and food! The hotel is well situated just off the centre of the historic centre of the town and a few minutes walk below the extremely picturesque 13C castle which is a 'must visit'. Street parking is quite easy to come by and apparently there are some reserved spaces next to the hotel. Braunfels is not a high crime area but normal common sense should be applied when leaving valuables on show in unsecured parking areas.

Very Basic Gasthaus

Reviewed By HonestJohnUk

A very simple gasthaus near picturesque Braunfels, which is a 5 minute car drive away. There is also a bus service to Braunfels. Historic Wetzlar is about 15-20 mins by car. This place is cheaply priced, and at the very bottom end of what I would accept from a German gasthaus. The rooms, located across the road from the gasthaus and in a (lockable) separate house, are basically furnished and in fact a little jaded. The toilet in my ensuite was badly limescaled, and the shower had seen better days. The bedside lamp looked like it had almost caught fire at one point in time, with a charred and disintegrating shade. Surprisingly had wireless internet, but at 1 Euro per hour!! The food was standard gasthaus fare, with some game dishes such as wild boar. As normal, beers were good, with 'local' Giessener Pils available on draught as well as bottled Weizen etc. Breakfast (included) was a basic but adequate affair served at table - unusually no buffet as is normal in most gasthauses. This presumably keeps the cost down. The owners are reasonable enough, but not exactly welcoming. Some may prefer it this way. Parking off road and just about adequate. In summary, it justifies its low price; don't expect any luxury!

Gasthof Am Turm

Could Have Been Great

Reviewed By NBTxGirl

The location is perfect and the atmosphere is lovely. Owners are interesting. Appear to speak very little English, but could when needed. Owners seem to think we didn't understand any German and did talk about us with their local patrons quite a bit. Arrived at night and it took a bit to get taken to rooms, some of which are at a house off site, very little conversation and we actually missed seeing a room that was behind a door we weren't shown, causing confusion and angst for everyone.
