Reviews on New Zealand food in Mangonui, North Island, New Zealand. Taipa-Mangonui is one name given to a string of small resort settlements in the far north of New Zealand's North Auckland Peninsula, close to the base of the Aupouri Peninsula. Good coffee and relaxed outside place to drink it. Nice view over the harbour. Even in July its warm enough to sit outside and enjoy. Nice prompt service and lots to watch as the world goes by. Looked like nice meals as well.

On our first evening in Mangonui, we called in for a glass of wine, enjoyed sitting in a seat by the window looking out over the inlet. Three nights later we called in for dinner, and we are really happy we did so. We almost didnât, as we think the $4.50 extra charge for a GF pizza base is a bit steep; but the one of us who is gluten intolerant avoided the problem by ordering the Cajun fish which was really excellent - fresh snapper, beautifully cooked, on a salad. It was only a starter but was plenty for a main. I had their lamb pizza (initially resisting the Kiwi variation but I got over myself on that one). That, too, was excellent: the lamb was beautifully tender, the combination with pesto, olives, feta all well-balanced. Weâd briefly chatted to the co-manager as we looked at their menu outside earlier in the evening and told him that we might be back after 6 - and, bless him - heâd reserved us a seat right by the window. He also recommended a very fine Aussie Shiraz. So, great food, friendly service, weâd certainly go again.

Good friendly service and excellent food with good portions. Just dropping for a meal given the limited choice in the area. Very friendly welcome. Ordered the John Dory with risotto and a steak with vegetables and potato gratin. Fish was superb and the risotto with prawns and peas seriously good. Steak meal also good with nice fresh ingredients. Shared a substantial chocolate fondant dessert. Again good. Simple food well cooked with the ingredients speaking for themselves.Dear Brendan GThanks so much for your wonderful feedback absolutely appreciated by all the team at Ramada Resort Taipa. We certainly look forward to having you drop in anytime for a meal.Warm RegardsJackie ThompsonGeneral Manager
