Brakel (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbraːkəl]) is a municipality in the Belgian province of East Flanders in the Denderstreek and the Flemish Ardennes. The name is derived from a Carolingian villa Braglo first mentioned in 866 and located in the center of Opbrakel. Since 1970, the municipality has comprised the villages of Nederbrakel, Opbrakel, Michelbeke, Elst, Zegelsem. In 1977 Everbeek, Parike and part of Sint-Maria-Oudenhove were added. On January 1, 2006, Brakel had a population of 13,726. The area is 56.46 km² which gives a population density of 243 per km². The mayor is Alexander De Croo.

I've been in this place by friend's suggestion. Was a very successful experience both for food quality and service. We were 2, me and my wife, and we had a very tasty dinner. Entrees, homemade pasta and dessert were absolutely amazing and quite fresh, the portion were well proportioned, the service was friendly, Italian way, and very professional. The restaurant has different rooms and a nice patio. Price were normal for Belgium, high rate quality vs price. Strongly recommended!

Finally - a pizza made by Italians. The pizzas were just great with a thin dough and tasty filling. I had a pasta with aubergine and chili. Perfectly cooked and just the right amount of chili. I didn't have to add any salt, which happens rarely as most restaurants are rather conservative with the seasoning. I wish the place was bigger and with more light, so one could enjoy the dinner in more inviting surroundings. A lot of take-away activity. Next time we're in Belgium, we will definitely visit Il Carretto again!

Went there on a Saterday evening, when we came in thw welcom was "cold". They know the prices but the quality of the food is not in line with them. I think they just started but surely must improve. The waiters were not interested and the only thing they did when you paid is escorting you out. Won't come back there
