It is the administrative centre of Vas county in the west of the country, located near the border with Austria. Szombathely lies by the streams Perint and Gyöngyös (literally "pearly"), where the Alpokalja (Lower Alps) mountains meet the Little Hungarian Plain. The oldest city in Hungary, it is known as the birthplace of Saint Martin of Tours.

This is a lovely glassed in restaurant attached to the elegant Hotel Pelican. It hasa beautiful wood bar on a raised platform attached to the Hotel Pelican. The chef strives for haute cuisine but everything I've had is average at best. For example, the eggs in the buffet breakfast are cold as ice if you are not there at 7am. What they call "apple juice" is an ersatz mixture that is sweet and nauseating. For lunch The steak tartar tasted like chemicals and for dinner the goulash - were barely edible. In all fairness I am from the USA and I may not have a taste for this style of cooking since my Hungarian friend liked it a lot. As for the service there is no question that the waiters are very polite for the few seconds they spend with you. Catching the waiters' attention is a trick even for the natives who waved their hands as futilely as I did. One warning for those who don't speak Hungarian. I was staying at the hotel a and I asked for the bill without specifying I wanted to charge it to my room and they insisted on cash (no credit cards) and were quite unpleasant saying that having omitted to mention I wanted to charge the bill to my room upon requesting the bill I was obligated to pay by cash. I was five dollars short and the nearest ATM was many blocks away - but they were heartless. Still " the look" of the restaurant is great and it seems to be authentically local food.

Iâve been here for dinner with my family. We had the daily menu. The waitress were in running pants and when she doesnât have what to do just sit to a table to her friends and constanly have a conversation. The menu was a medium or low quality food, the meat was really salty. The glasses what i got for my water was really dirty and has water marks on it. I think this would be a good place if these problems will be solved!

Le kell szögezni, hogy egy rövid séta után ez az elsÅ hely Szombathely fÅterén, amelyik hÃvogatja a finomabb Ãzlésű embert. EttÅl függetlenül mintha akadályba ütköztem volna: arra a kérdésre, hogy van-e még konyha, kicsit bizonytalan válasz érkezett, és hogy kártyával lehet-e fizetni, méginkább tanácstalanná vált a felszolgáló. Kiderült, hogy itt csak készpénzt fogadnak el, Ãgy elkullogtam az OTP-hez. Csak halkan kérdezem: ha egy ilyen trendinek kinézÅ hely tényleg trendi akar lenni, vajon miért nem lehet kártyával fizetni?De kitartottam, visszajöttem, kértem menüt (szederlevest és csirkét), és nem bántam meg. A leves után azt gondoltam, belevaló szakács fÅz, a csirke viszont elbizonytalanÃtott. EttÅl függetlenül jól éreztem magam, és azóta is van készpénzem.
