Reviews on German food in Muenster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Often overlooked by English-speaking tourists, Muenster is a small university city near the Dutch border. The Altstadt (old town) was rebuilt after WWII to resemble its medieval predecessor, and you'll find most museums and historic attractions are here. For trendy clubs and restaurants, head over to the Hafen ("harbor") district.

I got a reservation for this restaurant because it was highly recommended. It was nothing special. Service is good and staff super friendly and helpful but their surprise menu was a little disappointing. I expected molecular cuisine, I like to experiment, but it was not very appealing and not really enough. Most of the party was still hungry at the end of the dinner. I would try it again, maybe choosing the menu a la carteHowever, one great thing from this restaurant is the plenty and extravagant choice of cocktails. To try!

Located in the "Kuhviertel" (Kreuzstraße 37/38, 48143 Münster), my hopes for an interesting experience were high. Bars and restaurants in this section tend primarily towards students and "Die Carvete" is the oldest student tavern in Münster (run by students). It is a shame I didn't know this, as I found a small table in the front at a window and didn't look at the back section (though tumultuous jabbering could be heard from there). It calls itself the "akademische Bieranstalt" (the academic beer institution). The menu is actually quite extensive for a tavern and food is - well - student-oriented (meaning very attractively priced and mostly quite simple). Nonetheless, the quality was absolutely ok. They also offer several types of beer as well as wine and other drinks. The service was friendly and very attentive. The decoration (at least in the section I was in) is extremely interesting and a must-see (I won't give it away). The only negative thing was the Wifi on offer. It was necessary for me, as Vodafone only offers GPRS here and I had a couple of emails to write. Getting on the Wifi is unnecessarily difficult - you connect and are then directed - very slowly - to a Facebook page, where you have to "take your pants down" (luckily you can tone down the exposition a bit), then you have to like the Tavern and then you are given access. I've never quite experienced an onboarding process quite like this. To make matters worse, the connectivity is unfathomably slow. Sure, you're not supposed to be on your phone while you're here.So forgetting about the Wifi experience, the Cavete is a place you need to go to if you visit Münster! Be aware, though, that they don't open until 6PM.

I've had currywurst on previous visits and I loved the extra options, the Italian version was yummy and good fries! Will go again if in Munster on business

Visiting Münster for over 30 years it's good to see that 'things' get younger and more modern. The old 'Konditorei' is out, new stores and restaurants pop-up and make the difference. Beleg'bar is located on the streetcorner next to the Cathedral in the centre of Munster. You can't miss it and you have to try the food. It's outstanding, it's special and new. We tried Kartoffelbrötchen with Scrambled Egg and Bacon. Superb! Prices are very reasonable. We will return certainly. Beleg'bar has a great terrace on the streetcorner. Selfservice.Wir sagen DANKE für Deine tolle Bewertung. Es freut uns sehr, wenn es Dir bei uns geschmeckt hat und Dir unser beleg`bar Konzept gefallen hat. Wir freuen uns auf Deinen nächsten Besuch. Went to Gasthaus Stuhlmacher for dinner with a colleague and a customer. The atmosphere was quite lovely with the really nice service that made the evening really nice. We had the Herring appetizer and I ordered the Trout for dinner. While the beer selection left a bit to be desired, dinner was quite good. The Trout was fresh and well fried with a crispy skin and nice juicy inside. Overall enjoyed the food, though try some of the other restaurants next time

Ate at the Grosser Kiepenkerl on a Saturday with a larger group. The service was very friendly and were helpful with specialty requests regarding food on and off the menu. The appetizers came quite fast so that the rather longer wait for the main course was tolerable (all tables were booked, so the kitchen was quite busy). The main course was brought out for all at the same time, which resulted in medium warm side dishes for some of us. However, the service responded professionally and brought out a selection of hot sides for all to share. The more traditional dishes were good, the venison dishes were variable. Overall, the experience was good for service, the food itself was ok, but not superb for my taste.

This place is on a lovely little street of restaurants and beer houses. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. Good, reasonably priced wines can be drunk with your meal, even though it is a brewery. The food is good quality, simple German cooking which we enjoyed. The service is very efficient. Warmly recommended.

One of the "must" places (along with its larger namesake neighbor) you have to eat at to experience Muensterland food and Gemuetlichkeit. Quiet, good food. Pleasant wait-staff. Try the local Altbierbowle (beer with syrup,..you won't know you're drinking beer). The Lachs (salmon) and Kruestchen Bratkartoffeln were great. About 20 euros per person.

We enjoyed our dinner here well enough, but were slightly disappointed by a number of the dishes. The pork was a little dry, and the homemade sausage was not very tasty - the blood sausage especially had a strange texture. However, sauerkraut and bratkartoffeln were both excellent. A good traditional German meal, nice atmosphere and excellent service, but not the greatest food we've had of its type.
