Arnstadt (German pronunciation: [ˈarnʃtat] ( listen)) is a town in Ilm-Kreis, Thuringia, Germany, on the river Gera about 20 kilometres south of Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. Arnstadt is one of the oldest towns in Thuringia, and has a well-preserved historic centre with a partially preserved town wall. The town is nicknamed Das Tor zum Thüringer Wald ("The Gateway to the Thuringian Forest") because of its location on the northern edge of that forest. Arnstadt has a population of some 25,000. The city centre is on the west side of Gera. The municipality comprises four "villages": Angelhausen–Oberndorf, Dosdorf–Espenfeld, Rudisleben, and Siegelbach. The neighbouring municipalities are Wachsenburggemeinde, Kirchheim, Alkersleben, thorn Home, Wipfratal, Plaue and Gossel.

Feels like you are in Austria. For the winter i like the fire place. Schnitzel are good and I love the colour of the vegetables very nice. Service is good specially when you love typical Austrian dresses.

Eigentlich lag alles an der Bedienung. Nett und freundlich reicht halt manchmal nicht. Es gab nicht die Getränke -Auswahl, die wir hofften, ok, nicht schlimm. Was aber negativ auffiel, dass wenn es um Diabetiker mit wenig Zuckerkonsum geht, man schon ein wenig wissen müsste, was eine Alternative wäre. Kuchen gab es, aber man wusste noch nicht einmal, was für Sorten auf dem Teller sein sollten (3 Stück). Leider Mühe allein genügt nicht, so groà ist die Auswahl am Speisen nicht und es waren auch kaum Gäste da, was weit blicken lässt. Schade, vor Jahren wurden wir hier positiv überrascht. Jetzt kommen wir sicher nicht wieder in den Genuà ein nettes kompetentes Ausflugsziel besuchen zu wollen.

Ein familiärer Ausflug zum gemeinsamen Mittagessen in der Adventszeit ist bei uns schon Tradition, aber nur im Gartenlokal Freundschaft sind unserer Meinung nach alle Voraussetzungen dafür bestens erfüllt... Immer freundliche Bewirtung & schmackhaftes Essen. Immer wieder gern hier, natürlich auch "zwischendurch" eine gute Adresse in Arnstadt.

We had nearly two hours to kill so we decided to have an early leisurely lunch. On the recommendation from the lady at the Information Center, we went to the Schnitzelhaus. It was a nice day so we sat outside. One waitress covered the six or seven tables. She quickly brought menus and took our orders. Drinks were soon there as were refills at ours and nearby tables. After nearly an hour, we were feeling the time crunch and people at nearby tables were complaining. When the food did arrive, all were disappointed with the quality. My schnitzel looked and tasted like it came out of the freezer section of a discount supermarket. So too did another guest's apple strudel. Only the friend who ordered liver was satisfied with her meal. We made it out in time for our appointment. As we left, a guest at a neighboring table lost his temper with the poorly trained waitress. We cannot recommend the Schnitzelhaus.

Aufgrund einer Vorabrecherche auch bei Tripadvisor, sind wir dort zum Mittagessen eingekehrt. Der Service war nett, aber es hat ziemlich lange gedauert.Das Essen war zwar preiswert aber wirklich nichts besonderes. Das Ambiente entsprach teilweise altostdeutschem Charme. In der Summe kein Hit.

As we were staying one night in the hotel which is a bit out of town, we had dinner in the restaurant. Our meals were all very good and the service fast and professional.We were 3 and took,- Forellenfilet (trout) with potato salad, apple-onion relish and butter croutons (14.90 â¬). The portion was generous and the tasty fish fillets lightly pan fried.- vegetarian pasta - thick band pasta with tomatoes and zucchini and avocado pieces in a cream sauce with grated cheese (12.60 â¬). Thoroughly delicious and fresh but too much pasta for me to get through.- Arnstädter Bierfleisch - goulash with beef from Arnstadt cooked in a dark beer served with red cabbage and the famous German dumplings (14.90 â¬). Good quality and delicious.We drank the local beer (interesting) and soft drinks.We ate in the winter garden, a huge restaurant with high glass ceilings (see photo).A good evening with very good food.

Had a lovely traditional meal from the area with friends.Good value for money including an English menu which very much surprised us.The staff were very attentive and tried to help us with our meal selection. As the restraunt is in an area not visited by tourists we were well received. We took the opportunity to visit the Erfurt Christmas market some 20Km from Arnstad, this is a must see attraction including the two very impressive Cathedrals. We have also visited Erfurt in the summer and would also recommend a visit.
