Found this Spur by chance and was impressed by the friendly reception at the front door and then on entering the restaurant the cleanliness caught my eye immediately and the calm and confidence of all the staff was great. We had dinner here with our family from South Africa. Restaurant is situated in a mall. Nice and friendly staff and clean. There was enough choice and food was very good with friendly service. For smokers they have special area were you can smoke so you don't have to get out of the restaurant.Dear Berend d,Thank you so much your amazing review of Santa Cruz Spur Family Restaurant. I am not impressed with the burgers and definitely not the chips. I ordered a take away and the chips were cold, old and dried out and the explanation was some BS that's because it's thin fries and "crispy". I think I know the difference between old stale chips and crispy. The burgers were just as awful with clearly old breadrolls. I had Rocomamas from Randburg awhile ago that was outstanding food! As far as Spur restaurants go, this is one of the better ones.Unfortunately on the night we visited, everyone's food was served cold. Management was very apologetic and offered to replace the meals and/or alternatives. However, it was fairly late and we left, but accepted the apology. Invited by a friend to meet for lunch. Excellent decision to do something out of the ordinary. Mall's and Coffee shops do get tedious. What a surprise. Roadhouses are getting few and far between. In all of Johannesburg, the East still have a few left. This one is great. Excellent and clean, efficient and very friendly staff. Brilliant Milkshakes and the Kota Burgers are very good. Gladly give it a try when you are out on the East Rand.
