On a trip further South we made a lunch stop in Emmendingen. We entered Palio without many expectations and were pleasantly surprised: the food is tasty and made from excellent ingredients (I had a salad with a superb organic goat cream cheese). Service is friendly and efficient. Very good value. I will certainly return happily, if I'm around that area again.

Went with a group of my relatives (my wife's family), on a Tuesday evening in September. We were nine people. The restaurant wasn't busy but toward 8 pm or so it became more so. The ambiance is nice, a renovated brewery someone said. There are more larger tables than small, but they have a clever table divider with condiments to use as necessary. There is a nice outdoor terrace for fair weather. A decidedly different menu that is easy for all to read. I can see a somewhat "younger" crowd enjoying the cocktails and so forth, but they also have an extensive tea selection and other things for everyone. From their photos on their Facebook page it seems to be a place where people go to party, which thankfully no one was the evening we were there! I don't believe anyone had starters except for one pumpkin-apple soup (which was fine). I can speak to the classic steak, which was beautifully cooked (medium-rare) and nicely served, although the potatoes were essentially thick potato chips and not especially appealing. The Mediterranean steak came with a much more tasty potato. The lamb, as well, proved popular, served with an oregano brown sauce (on the side, and better tasting than it sounds when written). The service was OK if a bit impersonal. Prices were perhaps a bit more than one would expect, but if the food is well-prepared than that's acceptable. All in all there was nothing amiss, but neither was it a place I would rush back to. I can say that it is a different setting and menu then one typically finds in the Frieburg region. Non-German speakers would be well at home, I think.

My friend had been before, so the proprietor came to greet and offered to put a meal together which we happily accepted. Salad with pan-fried scallops and gambas, taglierini with a light cream sauce and truffle shavings, a creamy but still light soup (can't remember now which vegetable) followed by veal escalopes with a wonderful creamy polenta and some nice vegetables. We didn't know it would be four courses and had wanted just a little something.... but everything was absolutely delicious and we ate it all.... Menu price was € 39 per person - more than good value. Can absolutely recommend for a really nice meal, with family / friends or if entertaining business partners (open for lunch as well).

Traditionnal german restaurant, with great food. Salad was very refined, salmon perfectly cooked, blauburgunder wine very well chosen (actually, one of the best I have ever drunk).

We have ben here for a business lunch and also for brunch. There is always a peaceful atmosphere supported by a varied miday menu and pleasant staff. At lunch time the mini desserts are wonderful, just enough to be able to enjoy the taste without being overloaded

During a visit to this town, we enjoyed a very fine dinner here. Service was friendly (the kind where one is greeted by handshake) and efficient. The food to the most part was delicious. The "Vorspeisenteller" featured plentiful selections and was beautifully presented. I followed it with the Steinpilzravioli I ordered was very tasty and the mushrooms' distinctive taste was well preserved. My friend found her main dish somewhat disappointing, especially the Brägele (roast potatoes without bacon and onions but they were not roasted particularly beautifully). The selection of local wines to accompany dinner was lovely.

Also essenstechnisch absolut top!
