Dating from at least the 10th century, today Kassel is most famous internationally as the home of Documenta, an every-five-years exhibition of modern and contemporary art. In the late 17th century Kassel received a large influx of Huguenot refugees from France. During the 1800s, it became the capital of the Brothers Grimm's Fairy Tale Route. In 1943, the city was virtually razed by British bombers, leaving few old sights, but the 18th-century Wilhelmshöhe Castle overlooking the city remains.

Excellent restaurant set just off the centre of the Town Centre in Kassel. I was spoiled for choice from the large menu - the half chicken which could be served in various different ways was very tempting but I opted for the authentic schitzel made from veal, rather than the usual pork - and I can't rate it enough - it was excellent.I would go back and recommend it wholeheartedly if you are in Kassel.

This restaurant associated to Hotel Gute offers excellent traditional German dishes with the little accents that make them really delicious. The pepper steak is rather traditional with beans and fries, but the turkey steak with curry foam and fruits is a class of its own. Service is extremely friendly, atmosphere peaceful and in rather dim light. The food quality and the atmosphere are five star, without hesitation. However, the service was disappointingly inattentive. English language menus are available, but have a more limited listing. On another night, perhaps our experience will be 5 star; the place is certainly capable of that. An excellent choice, overall.

I can recommend the Schnitzel Weiner Art and the Cordon Bleu which we had - it was really good. And you can get the schnitzels in three different sizes. No man will leave hungry after a meal here.

Visited this restaurant when our first choice was full. Had no idea what to expect but was amazed at the value for money. My rating of 5 reflects this. The food is tasty and portions are large. The dessert was simple but beautifully presented. Well worth a try.

I ate here with coworkers on my last two trips to Kassel and highly recommend it. The food and atmosphere are good and they offer English menus. The servers are helpful and accommodating of English-speakers. Keep in mind that this is not a speedy restaurant. Order a drink and relax. I recommend the pretzels and spagel soup as an appetizer! The dinner portions are huge, so you will not go hungry. The outdoor seating is wonderful, and indoor is nice as well.

This place has a terrific terrace so you can enjoy the summer, have a beer and ask for a sausage from the grill. The wiener schnitzel was also delicious. Prices are reasonable and servers are friendly and speak English

The food was excellent, very close to the original Greek taste (considering that each Greek restaurant in Germany and everywhere in the world has to match a bit to the taste of the people in the country and the ingredients are not original Greek)! I have tried fish, which was very fresh and nicely prepared. Appetizers and deserts were great as well. I have ordered Loukoumades, which is actually a very common and simple desert in Greece, but I was glad to eat Loukoumades as they should actually taste! :-)The staff was very friendly, always with a smile, while the whole mood in the restaurant was great!I will return for sure!

Often, a restaurant experience is very good in many ways but one thing prevents it from becoming totally satisfying. (e.g. sterile decor, music too loud, disappointing food, inattentive service) This is certainly NOT the case at Humboldt 1a. Yes, the restaurant's address IS actually 1A, but so is its accolade and well deserved. My wife and I were there yesterday evening and came home with the warm glow of a perfect dining experience. The building itself is a good start, a remnant of Kassel's pre-war central European charm, set in a quiet side street and just a three minute walk from the town hall. The restaurant is very tastefully appointed, modern yet warm and friendly. Our three courses were all excellent but the top prize went to the lamb I was served (Lammnüsschen) -- easily the most tender and succulent I have ever experienced. There were some expensive wines on the list but our choice of the Rocca Maura 2015 for â¬20 perfectly complimented our meat dishes. Last but not least -- superb service! Our two waiters were professional, attentive, friendly and humorous to just the right degree. Three-course meal for two with prosecco and wine - â¬120.00 Worth every cent!

What an amazing experience.A beautiful building, super friendly staff and customers creating such an amazing atmosphere, to enjoy food that did not disappoint, sensational from start to finish , you can taste the young chef Sven wolfs passion. I've eaten in a lot of Michelin restaurants and this is one of my new favourites. A little cheaper than some of the British ones too, leaving a little more to spend on the lovely wine selection.Highly highly recommend.
