Crepe Escape

A cute little creperie with an extensive menu of both savoury and sweet crepes. Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available.

Reviewed By GoTravelDame

My daughter and I visited The Crepe Escape last weekend. It is a small place with limited seating, too bad they didn't settle on a larger place, they were turning people away at one point. First to the crepes. They were delicious. My daughter had "The Classic" with nutella and strawberries (she asked for no banana). Delicious. I had "The Française" with chicken and a lovely cream sauce. It was wonderful as well. As good as any crepe I have had in Paris. Savory crepes are usually served with a buckwheat crepe, not a sweet, but it was still delicious. My only negative part about our experience is with the person behind the cash. When we sat down to wait for our crepes (you order and pay at the counter and then they bring them to you), there were only two tables available. One was in a corner with two sides against a wall, with only one chair, clearly set for only one person. The other was a table for four. We sat at the table for four. The person from the cash came over after a few minutes and in a loud accusing voice said, "We CAN'T have only two people at a table for four when we are THIS busy! You will have to move to another table." I told her that we had looked at the table for one but it only had one chair. She said, "well take one from this table!" I didn't mind moving. They were getting a crowd in and we totally understood. But the WAY she told us. How about, in a low quiet voice, "I'm sorry, but we are really busy, would you mind moving to this other table? Here, let me get an extra chair for you."A few minutes later a couple sat down at the table for four. I waited for "Miss Sunshine" to come and tell them to move, but she didn't. Not even when a family with two kids came in and were told they would have to wait 40 min. for a table. They asked if they could sit at the counter by the window (only two chairs) and were told "sure". So they squeezed in there. Not sure why the couple wasn't told to move to the two person counter so the family could sit at the table. So bottom line, LOVED the crepes, HATED the attitude of the counter person. Totally affected our enjoyment of the meal which was worth five stars, not the three I ended up giving. Hope the management reads this.

Pricey lunch accompanied by indifferent service. Food....OK but not extraordinary by any means. A serving of french fries with a bit of mayonnaise $7.50+........yikes!!! Salmon croustine looked like a good order idea but the bread was stale and hard, not crispy (far too thick to be considered for the dish).

We visited on Friday night because of the live music. Not only was the music great but so was the thin crust pizza and the cider. The service was also very good and there were great views. It was a pretty laid back atmosphere which made for a great Friday evening. Would highly recommend a visit!

Hartleys Tavern

We chose Hartleys Tavern for the site of my 50th birthday celebration supper. We were a group of eight and all were excited to eat here based on rave reviews. Our meals were, indeed, inspired and delicious. Our server made suggestions and everyone was very pleased with their choices. I had the scallops to start and the fish entree. Both were quite lovely. Unbeknownst to me, my friends conspired with our server to surprise me with a cake after the meal. I thought very highly of our server to accommodate this request. It was while we were walking back to our Air BnB that the group realized that we had overpaid. A 20 % gratuity had been included in our bill. Each of the four couples had tipped generously on top of the total they were given. When we arrived at our place, my husband phoned the restaurant to explain our mistake. He was curtly informed that the menu included notice that for parties of 6 or more, a 20% gratuity would be included in the bill. Seeing as we hadn't seen the menu for couple of hours by the time we got the bill, no one recalled seeing it. The server didn't mention it and the lady who answered my husband's phone call basically told him that it was our mistake for not noting the policy when we were perusing the menu. This left a sour taste in our mouths after such a pleasant dining experience. I find it in very poor form for the server not to have drawn our attention to the policy when the bills were distributed. We would still have added a generous tip, but would have done so based on the accurate total of the meal. The response to our phone call was not an example of good customer service in the hospitality industry.I caution future diners to not make the same mistake we made.

Inn-Lake on the Mountain Restaurant

My wife and I dined at the restaurant recently. Upon receiving a very friendly greeting from the hostess we were shown to our table (we had previously made reservations). The appetizers arrived in a timely manner but it was down hill from there. We waited for the better part of an hour for the main course from the time we finished appetizers. At one point, I asked the hostess to follow up with the kitchen and the food finally arrived. Our issue is that an apology from the hostess would have been nice, but not a word. It’s a shame because we did enjoy the food. Top notch service should be of paramount importance for any retail facility - especially a restaurant.

Hadn't been for a few years....and we're glad we went back. There is a lot more patio space now and the place is bustling. Service was good and there were lots of beer choices. I had the chicken club on flatbread. It was huge and very good. My daughter and husband both had the burger and it did not disappoint The atmosphere and service were great. Thanks Emmi. It is definitely a good choice if you are in Picton.

We enjoyed lunch at the Miller House and it was exactly what we were looking for - incredible patio with a view and enjoyable, casual food.We had the local charcuterie board and one of the flambees (flatbread). The bacon marmalade was fantastic. The flatbread was fine, though not as good as other in the country. Service as a bit slow but we weren't in a rush and were happy to take our time. The views are truly wonderful and the Lake on the Mountain area is very quaint and lovely.

We enjoyed our Sunday morning breakfast very much. Stuck with the classic, great home fries, eggs done the way we like them, bacon and sausage fresh and tasty. Decaf coffee was freshly made. We didn’t have to wait for a table but by the time we left (9 am or so) it was pretty full and a few minutes wait for newcomers. An easy walk from where we stayed on a beautiful summer morning. Great way to start the day.

We were a bit disappointed in our meals after our high expectations. My steak tartare was well presented but seemed to lack flavour and had one spot that was quite salty. My lamb was cooked to my liking but was not very warm as my wife’s pork. Her salad was excellent. Service was very attentive and professional but I found some of the verbage by the waiters to be a little over the top.
