I reviewed this place once before and was very unhappy with the service.The owner then invited me to come back next time I was in Veurne as she said the situation with the unfriendly waiter in question had been resolved.So a few weeks ago I went back and what a difference!The food was still good but now the service was very friendly and very helpful too.Will definitely go back next time I stop off in Veurne.

Veurne, difficult to pronounce, already a reason not to promote the place unless you have actually been there. Charming, very easy to reach (the GPS will actually find it), cheap parking (for free), a monumental square and the bells playing tunes that make us happy. I was there, on a road trip in the region, I was there on a busy Saturday evening, in summer, nice weather. I was hungry, had no reservation. So i walked around the main square, saw plenty of people having plenty of food and taking plenty of seats. About 50 meters from the main square is the Appelmarkt, Apple market. A very small place, not a square with a restaurant called De Oogappel. 'Any seats left' I asked the lady of the house at 6.30 pm watching an empty restaurant. Yes, table for two it was. Now I usually question empty restaurants on a saturday evening, today I was simply hungry. I got an interesting gin and tonic (tonic brand I had never seen before), small ice cubes, pity. Ordered some starters to share (that is the plan in the Oogappel). Was flabbergasted by the level of perfection the small shrimp croquettes with fried parsley had and the delight and style the beef carpaccio was presented on. This was absolute passion on a plate prepared by someone obviously knowing his job. So i asked for a suggestion and heard we have shirmp and tomatoes (the famous Belgian dish, tomates crevettes), my partner went for bouillabaisse. So, here goes, how can you bring a simple red tomato and the North sea shrimp to a level of delight comparable to an XTC trip? (not that i had ever XTC but looking at the youtube footage on it, it must be quite some rave). Well, this man did it. Crispy lettuce, home made mayo, fresh fries and a ton of shrimp on the plate. Wonderful.... Bouillabaisse was correct, tasted to craftmanship, well done but would recommend to use a bit of fennel in future to give it that distinct taste. So yes, my dear tripadvisor readers, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, One oogappel a day and you stay away from the other restaurants in Veurne.

We stopped for a cuppa with our little girl and ended up staying for lunch. We ordered a mixed tapas board which came with a selection of different cheeses, dips, meats and croquettes to share. The tea was beautiful, fresh leaves in it's own little clear pot, served with a mini chocolate mousse and biscuit. What a treat, eating beautiful tapas while listening to the town clock chime its bells, we cant wait to come again on our next visit.

Had the scampi mozaiek. Told the waiter we didn't have that much time so this very tasty dish was delivered fast, but with a smile. Waiter checked up on us to see if everything was okay, which it most certainly was.

We arrived en masse at this very nice restaurant. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. The weather was wonderful so we were able to enjoy our deserts outside. The sabayon was very nice, the chips were a bit industrial (hand cut would have been nicer :)). All in all a lovely visit.

We learned to know this restaurant thanks to the "bongobon" we received. It is a perfect entry to getting to know the restaurant. It is a steak restaurant which focuses on quality meat. And quality has a price but it remains very reasonable.The quality is there indeed and the meat is really delicious.Also the house wine is very good and in my point of view the house wine says a lot of the quality of the restaurant. Also on this point the restaurant provides a very good standard. (Probably because a wine shop is part of the restaurant and so knowledge and quality is present).Service is perfect with a humouristic taste of the owner and the location is very rustic and in the city centre of Furnes.A place we will certainly return to when we want high quality steak.Apart of sundays when the restaurant opens at noon, the restaurant is only open in the evening, which might make reservation a bit difficult during the day. But in our case we were called back and reservation was easy.

A delightful meal with exceptional starters and and excellent main. Attention to detail is high on the agenda at this lovely restaurant overlooking the town square. Helpful staff who made a couple of English visitors very much at home with a detailed explanation of the menu, perhaps this is why we thought the food so good as it was what we expected. Either way it was cooked to perfection and tases to to remember for all of the right reasons. Wine by the glass was very reasonable and the Pomerol fantastic.c value.Sadly no room for a dessert but if they are as half as good as the food we did eat we missed a treat.

Is this a restaurant or is this your own home with a great cooker? This was my very first visit here but I can guarantee it will not be the last. Perfect cooked food in an home atmosphere. Continue that way dear owners.... It is the right way.
