Bavaria, Germany Food Guide: 5 Mediterranean food Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Oberammergau

September 6, 2019 Etsuko Causey

Reviews on Mediterranean food in Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany. If you’re visiting Oberammergau in a year ending with zero, it’s all about the Passion Play. Villagers have performed it since the 17th century. It’s seven hours long (thankfully, with an intermission), and about half the townspeople participate in 100+ performances between May and October. And since hundreds of thousands are expected to attend over the course of those performances, if you’re in town, you’ll have company.

Very good people human and open for questions and suggestions. Asking for feedback and improvements. The tables on the walkway was not a problem as it is fun watching people in and outside the restaurant walking by. The train can be a bit noisy but only for a moment. Food was very good and light, pasta or dumplings. It was so good I had to eat two evenings in a row, and as I was climbing up the Zugspitze, I asked for a BIG "Männer" portion of pasta and got it, just right to close such a heroic day!!! Thanks team well done!

My wife and I wanted a light dinner and ordered tagliat al finerli and insalata casa. We enjoyed both of the meals very much. We sat outside enjoying the evening and the service was very good. Unfortunately, about three hours later, we both were experiencing an upset stomach and sickness. A great meal that went bad.

What a lovely atmosphere this restaurant has. It is very warm and welcoming with the various things the owners have collected and decorated the place with giving it a wonderful feel. Especially the glass lamps and shades. I had a mixed seafood pizza which unfortunately was not very interesting as the seafood had no real taste. My friends had calzone and pasta and both really enjoyed theirs. I would definitely go back. It was a great place to visit on a cold wintery evening.

A little bit off the beaten path, we found the dinner prices at Artemis to be an excellent value. We sat outdoors under an umbrella with a nice view of the surrounding area. The fillet of sole came with fries, tomato rice, and tzatziki (Greek sauce made of yogurt, garlic, & cucumbers) and I added a bowl of bean soup. All was good. We also tried the escalope of pork with fries, also good. The service was good until it came time to pay the bill. We asked for it twice with no immediate response. I got out my credit card and placed it on the table to show we were waiting for the bill. Finally after about 20 minutes the waitress comes with the bill and tells me she can't accept the credit card. That's okay, I understand, maybe that is their policy, or maybe the check amount was not enough to allow them to process the card. I paid with cash, but having to wait so long to pay kind of spoiled our experience at Artemis.
