Bad Kreuznach Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Bad Kreuznach

July 29, 2017 Tynisha Seiler

Bad Kreuznach (German pronunciation: [baːt ˈkʁɔʏtsnax]) is a town in the Bad Kreuznach district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It does not lie within any Verbandsgemeinde, even though it is the seat of the like-named Verbandsgemeinde. Bad Kreuznach is a spa town and the seat of several courts as well as federal and state authorities. Bad Kreuznach is also officially a große kreisangehörige Stadt ("large town belonging to a district"), meaning that it does not have the district-level powers that kreisfreie Städte ("district-free towns/cities") enjoy. It is, nonetheless, the district seat, and also the seat of the state chamber of commerce for Rhineland-Palatinate. It is classed as a middle centre with some functions of an upper centre, making it the administrative, cultural and economic hub of a region with more than 150,000 inhabitants. Moreover, the town and the surrounding areas are renowned both nationally and internationally for their wines, especially from the Riesling, Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau grape varieties.

The Restaurant offered an outstanding 4 course dinner. The vines corresponded perfectly to the international and regional foods having been served this night. Amazing ideas went into the dessert creation, I'm just mentioning the "basil-creme-ice". It was a very nice evening, worth every penny.

it was a good idea to select this one.
The card to select meals is enough large to choose.
We tested two different sort of noddle of rice with meat (6.50€)
The quality was OK. Prices were low

We stopped here after hiking the hills around Bad Kreuznach. Their home-brewed helles bier is wonderful. We ate appetizers; my wife had a baked potato while I had baked feta cheese and bier brot. All was excellent. Without a doubt we'll return here when in Bad Kreuznach

Hermannshohle Restaurant Weck

The MICHELIN guide gives us two Michelin stars and says: "This lovely family owned and runned restaurant, a ferry house from the 16th century situated next to the Nahe river, offers typical dishes of the region."In the high-quality magazine "FEINSCHMECKER" cuisine and comfort are described as being "above-average" - this kind of praise inspires and motivates us. Our Hermannshohle - a dream come true for us: creative cooking using only high-quality ingredients, a feel-at-home atmosphere, the best wines of the Nahe region with many insiders' tips, a breathtaking patio and cultural events beyond any usual cliches. The historical walls of the Hermannshohle emphasize the comfortable atmosphere and welcome you to stay.Let us take you on a journey through our wine region Nahe, with its pure and authentic flavours.

This is a small restaurant on the Nahe riverside in the middle of a beautiful scenic area.
Frequented by bike trekkers and motorcycle enthusiasts in the warmer months it can fill up quickly, especially on the Terrace in fine weather. It is the perfect stop in this wine growing region for lunch or dinner.
Menus are available in English and the staff is also bilingual. Service is attentive and helpful and many local wines are featured to pair with menu items.
Traditional dishes are the stars here with offerings of asparagus in season, blood pudding and veal among others. The monk fish was an excellent main after a starter of delicate cream of white asparagus soup. An added plus is that the Chef is sensitive to requests for less salt or more spice as each dish is made to order.

La Dolce Vita

As we were strolling through the pictoresque old town of Bad Kreuznach we noticed this attractive ristorante and decided to have dinner there in the evening. Temperature was ideal for "al fresco" dining, so we were a bit surprised to see that, on a Saturday night at 8:45 pm, only about 5 tables were occupied.
Looking at the menue and a blackboard with "todays specials", we had the impression that this place did some serious Italian cooking.
We got the confirmation from the waiter that the swordfish carpaccio was made from fresh, raw swordfish and ordered it as a starter. Mains was to be tortellini with chanterelles (they have tons of this mushroom in Germany in summer!).
No wine list, for bottles of white, the choice was limited to a local Nahe wine and a Regaleali from Sicily, which we chose.
And then we sat waiting for almost an hour until the carpaccio materialised... just to discover that the finely sliced fish had be killed by some strange sauce reminiscent of what is found in the tin of canned Brat-Hering in Germany...
The tortellini came with a pureed filling with distinctive chanterelle flavour, but no visible trace of the mushroom was detected.
As we were finishing our meals, we overheard the loud conversation between the waiter, the cook/owner and one of their mates. When people in the restaurant trade start to talk behind the back of other restaurateurs (I spare you the details), you wonder why they have to do it in front of their own customers.
After having paid the bill, we were about to leave, and the owner eventually managed to apologise for having forgotten about our starters: "I was already busy preparing your main dish". He might have said it an hour earlier, and we could have accepted this as an excuse, but like that, it was too little, too late.

A lovely restaurant on the banks of the Nahe river with the sound of rushing water and views of the steep river banks with wineyards on top:) We had one of the best Italian dinners we have had in Europe! I had a cold seafood starter with lots of octopus in a perfect vinegarette. My husband had seafood pasta with shrimp/clams that he couldn't believe how good it was! Wine was colder than you usually get in Germany and ALL was perfect. The warm clear evening was icing on our cake:) We would go back both to Bad Kreuznach and this great restaurant!

Restaurant is excellent situated along the river Nahe. A typical Italian restaurant with Italian staff. The dinner was well balanced with good quality meat friendly served with fair waiting time between courses. We had seats on the Terrace with outside heating just enough not to feel uncomfortable in a cool evening.

Try spaghetti prepared in bowl out of italian cheese. Daily recommendations are written on a blackboard and worthwhile considering. But also a traditional Pizza is a good choice (they do not offer the usual list of 20 types).
The owner has the charming friendliness of an Italian.
The location is a little bit overstuffed with Italian things and could need some renovation. But this adds to the authentic atmosphere.
