Fantastic Stay at Desert Nights Camp

Reviewed By Monty S

During our Oman trip we spent two nights at the Desert Nights Camp. Great location and easy to find. The last 10km are on sand, hence a 4x4 car is required. We booked a two bedroom suite which was perfect for our family. The tents are very comfortable with a well needed a/c as it can get really hot during April. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Beside the complementary sunset drive and camel ride we also booked a sunrise drive that included dune bashing and sand boarding (absolute must!). We also enjoyed the quad bikes which we did in the late afternoon. The food was served at a large buffet and was excellent. While playing board games at the recreation room we also met the lovely manager and his young daughter on our second night. We highly recommend staying two nights as most visitors only enjoy the sunset drive and camel ride but misses all other activities. We had a great time!

Sama Al Wasil Desert Camp

Very nice experience, some things should be improved

Reviewed By Angi_H812

My husband and I were here for two nights during our round trip in Oman. We drove by ourselves and found the camp with maps.me. There are also signs that show the way, but we were glad we had also maps.me (just download the card so you can use it offline). We had a 4W car and deflated the tires. We didn't get stuck, but saw another car stuck. I recommend not to drive away from the "street". We had a standard bungalow with a double bed, the climate control worked good. There were some hangers for the clothes, a small desk, nice decoration. The bathroom had a shower curtain (could be improved), and the water pressure in the shower was very, very low. The food was good! For breakfast there was an egg station, two kinds of toast, yoghurt, muesli, different kinds of cheese, marmalade, butter, and rice/noodles. Some fruits would have been good, but okay, we are in a desert camp. The food at the evening was also good, there was chicken and camel meat (barbecue) and also vegetarian options, eg. vegetable garlic noodles or pasta. What we didn't like was that they call themselves eco-friendly, but they provided paper cups for tea/coffee, single-use sticks to stir, 250ml (!) water plastic bottles, 150 ml (!!) cans with SevenUp. Please, please stop that! Use water dispenser instead and wash up dishes instead of using single-use products! The bottles/cans were also much too small, as it was so hot and everybody drank more than only one bottle or can. Besides of that, they could improve: - bigger choice of drinks (there was tea/coffee, water and Seven Up) - labelling the switches in the room (there were approximately 9 switches for light, climate control, fan). - wash/shake out table cloth at the restaurant - cheaper prices for activities There was no housekeeping (we stayed two nights). At the time of check out they told me they were looking for us because of the housekeeping... Normally they just go into your room and do it? We were on a tour. No problem, but when we came back there was a sand storm and the windows were leaky and let in lots of sand... We cleaned up by ourselves a little bit. Otherwise we liked the camp, it was a little bit far to drive, but for a one-time experience good. We didn't book a camel ride or something, that was really expensive. Climb up the dunes and avoid doing that when there is a sand storm ;-) And no need to book a transfer, with a navi/Google Maps/Maps.me you will find it.

This is a wonderful hotel with full amenities in the desert. My room was a stand alone building with an outdoor shower and toilet that had the most amazing view of stars at night. Best bathroom ever. The food is great and plentiful for both breakfast and dinner. The grounds are clean and well kept. Very lovely location.

The camp was comfortable enough for the price, the bbq and Mamoon's breakfast was amazing .They have a nice barasti with comfortable loungers. The resident Saluki was very friendly and added to the experience. Things to keep in mind are no availability of hot water in the huts for shower, The beach near the hotel is 10mins walk but cant swim there. The swimable beach is 5 minutes drive away. Thanks to Masoor for the snokering and hiking trips. I would definitely stay there again.

This place is supported by a well organized machine that shows at the reception desk in Bidiyah as well as with communication before arrival using WhatsApp. We were handed our a map with approximate location , and our tires were partially deflated (needed to make it through the desert) It is a relatively easy find some 28 km deep in the desert. A 4 WD comes in handy but it is the reach between sand & suspension that counts. After 28 km the safari dunes camp is signposted at your right side. Simple yet elegant and the complex consists of 5 bungalows. This is a very quiet place . Take some time to relax. The hosts are very friendly and forthcoming. They provide you with plenty of food. In the evening there is a BBQ an bonfire. We went out for a walk , ( unfortunately ) collecting a few empty plastic water bottles. If you are lucky you can strike a conversation with a local. The vistas are just great

Superb unique experience

Reviewed By Sarah B

This was the highlight of our visit to Oman. From the moment we were greeted at the office in Bidyah onwards. We followed our wonderful host out into the desert in our 4x4 and found the drive breathtaking and exhilarating, arriving just before the hot sun sank from the sky. The meal was superb as was our accomodation for the night- the height of luxury with wonderful ornamental touches, lighting and plenty of water. Oussman (forgive spelling) took amazing care of us and preparing and serving our meals- which was nothing short of miraculous! Star gazing was beautiful and the silence deafening! We left after breakfast before it got too hot and enjoyed the drive out- taking lots of pictures. I am so glad we had the private experience compared to one of the larger star gazing camps.... It gave us a real sense of perspective of being a dot in the greater universe. An experience that I will never forget. Thank you.

Great experience!

Reviewed By cascado07

We chose Sands Dream Camp for our stay in Wahiba Sands as it seemed the best value and location for what we wanted. We opted for a return transfer which meant we parked our car at Al Wasil (Al Maha petrol station) and liaised with the camp via Whatsapp for pick up and drop off. The cost was 30 RO (note: this is per car). The drive to camp took 20-25 minutes from the petrol station and included dune bashing and a drive to the top of a dune for sunset at 4:30pm. We loved this and would highly recommend it! It could also potentially save you from getting lost/stuck in the sand if you drive yourself to camp. Plus, dune bashing and sunset drive alone costs 25RO so including a return transfer for an extra 5RO seemed worth it. We arrived in camp and were welcomed with dates, tea, coffee and water. Our bags were taken from the car to our tent by one of the staff. The two staff members in camp were very really helpful and friendly. The tent itself was quite basic with two beds, two chairs and a small table. The bathroom was external; there was a toilet, a sink and an open shower (no hot water). Towels were provided. Neither of us had a full shower as we left it until too late in the day when it got a little colder, and a cold shower was not appealing. For one night, it was fine (taking a shower earlier on in the day when it’s hot may be a better strategy). All in all, if you’re expecting luxury accommodation, you will be disappointed. But you’re in the middle of a desert, there’s no harm in roughing it up a little and enjoying the experience! Food was half board (dinner and breakfast) and it was great! Dinner included rice, meat curry, kebabs, bbq chicken, okra, humous, tabouleh, salad, naan and dessert included fruit, custard and baklava. Breakfast included french toast, mixed fruit pieces, boiled eggs, muffins and croissants. We were also offered omelettes which would’ve been freshly cooked. You won’t go hungry! Tea, coffee, water and dates are provided 24/7. Activities can be booked at the camp. So at camp dinner, we booked 30 mins quad biking for the next morning (cost 12 RO per person). Again, highly recommended - it was so much fun! Extra info: All payments were in cash. Electricity was available 24/7 and included lights in tent and bathroom, and plug sockets. You will have to arrange transfer beforehand but any activities you’d like to book can be done when you arrive at camp. Tips: - Take flip flops. It may be annoying if you’re constantly getting sand in closed shoes. - Nights can get quite cool (depending on the time of year you visit - we visited in December where it got to about 16°C) so take something warm to wear. - A torch may come in handy for when it gets dark. We had a head torch. - Try and arrange accommodation directly with the camp (you can use WhatsApp or email) as this will likely give you the best price. For example, we booked via hotels.com and paid 70RO. If we booked directly with the camp we were being quoted 45RO. Quite a difference; this is my personal experience and may differ for you. I hope you’ve found this review helpful! Enjoy.

Crescent Desert Camp

Great desert camp in Bidiya

Reviewed By MarcoMnk

We spent one night at Hilal’s camp and it was really great! The camp is new and only has 3 traditional tends (so if you are a small group you could book it for yourselves). The tends are extremely clean and each tend has its own toilet/shower just outside. Dinner and breakfast were also super good. There is a majlis (a bigger tent with sofas where you can drink tea and coffee) and a beach volleyball net. Hilal came and picked us up at the village, where we left our car, and drive us to the camp. I’d totally recommend this camp if you’re looking for a nice and cozy traditional desert experience in Oman. I look forward to go back.
