Very comfortable stay!

I stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff is friendly and courteous. Because if the lockdown, I took all my meals at the hotel (in my room) and they were excellent. And the room was spacious and comfortable.

Top service

Reviewed By Psasha

Had a brilliant stay at Nobel. Arrived very early because we forgot to book the ferry (it’s the Netherlands, stupid!) and had to take the first one. They gave us breakfast and the room was also ready. Great service! Rooms are cool and stylish. Same goes for the restaurant, great atmosphere and food. This place is actually the best reason to visit Ameland since the rest is pretty average. Except for the nature, of course.

A very nice place

Reviewed By Ingrid M

Stayed here for 3 days and, as the weather was quite nasty, we spent a bit more time in the room than we normally would have, but that wasn't so bad. Besides the extremely comfortable beds there were comfy chairs, TV with lots of channels, free and very fast Wifi, and not to forget an enormous bathroom/shower, everything very clean and neat. For the nicer weather there is a little balcony to sit on. Beach, dunes and recreation area at a few minuted walk. Bike rental possible. Breakfast was varied and plentiful, dinner could be had at the restaurant around the corner, or at 10 minutes walk in the village, where there is plenty choice. People were very friendly and helpful. Admittedly we stayed in a quiet season, so we didn't notice much about noise and would go back there without hesitation

Our group was made up of 2 familes. The suites we stayed in where clean, modern ,the beds very comfortable and had a very well equipped kitchenette. The breakfast buffet was great and the lovely waitress had gluten free bread for our daugher each morning. The staff in the restuarant/bar were all so lovely and friendly. We ate dinner one evening in the hotel and the food was very good. Short cycle to the beautiful beach or the other direction to the bustling town of Nes. We were able to book slots in the pool which was great for the children. My only critism is the pool not being very clean. We would stay again and definitely look at other Westcord hotels in the furture.

Not a chain but a family hotel. Very friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms, spacious bathroom with a good shower, small balcony with seats, the beds were a little bit hard but still good. Breakfast had all the basics and was certainly scrumptious and satisfying.

Fantastic stay, wonderful staff, good location!

Booked a three night stay in one of the three bed room apartments. Celebrated New Yeras Eve here, which was just exactly what we wanted it to be: quite and peaceful. We had a fantastic stay. Staff here are wonderful. Very hospitable and kind. Very clean rooms. Plenty of parking space for our car and e-bikes. The apartment was very convenient, with two bedrooms on the first floor. The living room being on the ground floor. The terrace overlooks a children playground which was a great success with our little one, even though it was quite cold outside. The Berkenhof is located very conveniently and about in the middle between all things on the island. The beach is just up the road. 't Oerd is about 8 kilometres by bike, the lighthouse around 10. The breakfast basket is great value for money: for just €12 per person it is brought to you every morning. The bread is freshly baked and the croissants were absolutely delicious. There are games available from the hall at reception (just take them and return afterwards). You can get some snacks and drinks too, there is a money box where you pay and/or get change. It's things like these that I can really appreciate. Unfortunately, unthinkable in a big city. All in all we had a great stay at the Berkenhof and a wonderful time in Ameland.

Not a nice place.

We ended up staying at this hotel for one night during a longer trip to the island of ameland. Although we expected the prices to be a little higher due to the national holiday, we did not expect to see them doubled. But the problems do not end there: we are asked for a deposit of 50 €, we are asked to pay separately for the cleaning service and even blankets and sheets. Absurd. In addition, the room was full of dust and summarily clean. In the end, we rented bicycles made available by the hotel and when we returned in the evening, respecting the time they had communicated to return them, the room was closed and there was no one to give them to. In short, a real nightmare and a really bad stay.

Hotel part is OK, Owner responsibility not so

Reviewed By nldogbert

The property is located in a small village on the east of the island and about 45-60 mins by cycling to the main town on the island. The hotel part is ok, basic functional room. Rooms are decorated from the most probably the late 80's or early 90's although they are still functional. Bed was comfortable. The shower area is ok, with good pressure and hot water. Internet (you need to ask for the code at the reception/bar - not sure why they don't just include it in the information booklet in the room). Speed was ok and stable. There is NO tea/coffee making, hairdryer and ironing facilities in the room. The hotel does have a sauna - though did not check it out. Breakfast seems to be included in all rates. The breakfast spread is OK - typical dutch spread with 4 hot dishes (with some variations from day to day). For the hotel part, it is slightly on the expensive side from value point of view, but still tolerable. As for the restaurant, in general it is an ok one. Prices are on par with the rest of the island. However one bitter point was how irresponsible the owner is in taking responsibility of their own mistakes. On the first day, for lunch, in their lunch menu, there was a meal (a sate dish) listed as a lunch portion which we ordered. However on the day of check-out when looking at the final bill of the hotel including items ordered at the restaurant, noticed that we were charged for the full dinner portion of the sate dish. Complained about this and even pointed it out in the menu that this does exist, the staff called the owner/manager but we were told that since we have the dinner portion we had to pay for it. Was further informed that in fact that option should have been removed from the menu (but was not done). After some negotiation, the staff agreed to take 5 Euro's from the full price. There was not much option but to agree to this. Therefore in this situation it shows - no ownership in their own mistake - staff could have informed us on the day that we ordered this that this does not exist and if we still wanted it, will be charged the full price and should have not assumed that we will be ok to pay the full price (which was crazy since it was close to 2x what you pay on the mainland) - no customer service or maintaining a returning customer mentality Therefore for me, all in all, the hotel is OK, but the restaurant and staff are not very customer friendly especially in resolving issues.

Lovely stay in a lovely town

Reviewed By Friso1990

Everybody working at the hotel and really friendly. The town was quiet and just a short walk from the beach. The hotel's restaurant was really great and right around the corner was another good restaurant with it's own drink, De Griffel. The local people of Hollum were also really friendly and helped us find our way when we were looking for local sights. All in all, we really loved it and would definitely go again.
