Martha took this place over and changed the view. Expect something completely different then the white wall pics you see here. You won't get any luxery but that's what you pay for :) Martha is really caring for her guests and dispite the lack of communication (she doesn't speak English) you'll get unexpected extras. Let's call it true love. :)

Reserva Natural Tucuchira

The Nature Reserve is located in the middle of the jungle, 15 minutes from the indigenous community of Santa Sofia, the time of travel varies depending on the time of the year, in winter season, November to May the entrance is done in boats of the region and in Season of low waters, in the months of June to October the entrance is made walking through the jungle, options that allow during their travels to interact with unique landscapes with great vegetation and fauna. The experience offered by the Reserve has two objectives: exchange of cultures and interaction with nature. This is why, have a rustic two-level cabin that has two forms of accommodation, the first level corresponds to a shared room In which there are seven single beds and on the second level there are two rooms, each with a double bed. It also has a second cabin specially designed for hammocks each with its mosquito net, camping area and bathrooms. In addition it has a platform for feeding of monkeys.

Rustic trip of a lifetime with locals in the Amazon!

Reviewed By elp619970

AMAZING way to experience the Amazon Forest, in a very rustic and rural setting. Tucuchira is run by and is a part of the Tikuna community of Santa Sofia, and the care, knowledge, and insight about the Amazon this place offers is totally unparalleled. Make sure you read their website well so you understand what you are getting into. No electricity, LOTS of bugs, lots of rain and mud (in the wet season). Also, amazing jungle sounds that change hour by hour, wild monkeys and birds, incredible biodiversity of food, medicinal, and otherwise useful plants. We opted for several different guided tours and all were excellent (canoe trip, jungle trek, indigenous community visit, monkey foundation/Tikuna museum). Our favorite was a canoe trip through the inundated forest, where the Amazon river has flooded the lowlands and created a web of canoe paths. It felt like a dream while quietly paddling through and under the thick forest, listening to the guide spot and describe so many things of interest. Plucking and eating fruits off trees, spotting sloths, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Our second favorite was visiting the Maikuchiga Monkey Foundation (not monkey island). Here we learned about the challenges and opportunities for reducing bushmeat practices among indigenous communities, the rehabilitation and release of rescued primates, and we also got to visit with a rescued baby sloth!!! There was lots of interaction available with the monkeys, but not just for photos. It was an amazing learning experience. There was also a very well executed Tikuna museum in the same community, the guide was very informative and passionate about the history and future of his people. Tips: in the wet season, bring lots of dry socks, and only bring quick dry clothing. Everything stays damp all the time. Headlamps are essential. Some type of non-slip sandal are nice for walking around the ‘camp’. I recommend spraying your clothes pre-trip with permethrin, which will reduce (not eliminate) your DEET needs. There are lots of mosquitoes all the time, everywhere except your bed under the mosquito net. You should take malaria precautions. Finally, communicate well with the staff and practice your Spanish. It will only enrich your experience. Bottom line is if you like the idea of camping in the Amazon forest with friends from a local community -but with a bed out of the rain and three meals a day prepared for you-this is the place. It will be an unforgettable trip of a lifetime.

Beautiful place but be careful with the owner manager James

Reviewed By Chicote A

The place is beautifully located near the river. It is very chilling and Roman, abuelo, Maria Fernanda and the other employees are very nice but the owner/manager James drinks too much alcohol and he doesn’t know about planning tours. It is a good place to overnight but it is better to book the tours by your own somewhere else in puerto narino. We wanted to do a night walk and James assigned us a very inexperienced guide who didn’t want to look for animals. We just saw 2 spiders that crossed our way in the jungle and were taken to an area full of wasps and got stung by 1. We also wanted to fish and he set us up a tour at night so we couldn’t fish anything. One day one of the employees wanted to take us fishing and James showed up very angry saying we couldn’t go fishing while other couple was doing a dolphin tour because we weren’t paying. But the worst was that he was drinking all the time while his wife cooks, takes care of the child and does everything. One day he was so drunk that he couldn’t even walk. He allowed two guys to smoke yague during the lunch which is dangerous as the bad spirits might move to other people. James as also laughing of our spanish accent the whole time which was very uncomfortable. The bungalows were old and very little taken care of. James is handicapping this place a lot with his alcohol addiction while the employees are very nice and hardworking people.

So Happy I Found This Gem of a Hotel

Reviewed By Go09917

I traveled to Leticia in November 2020 (my 3rd visit to this paradise by the Amazon) and after leaving my fist hotel after one night, I asked a Tuk-Tuk driver to take me to a clean, reasonably priced hotel close to the town's central district --- He took me to Hotel La Esperanza 2 --- it was absolutely perfect for me! I stayed for 5 days while visiting different points of interest to me and also while meeting with friends. I then traveled to Pto Narino for a few days and returned for another night at Hotel La Esperanza 2 before flying to Bogota. Reasonably priced, clean, quiet, safe, and the staff are really nice and extremely helpful. I plan to return in February and will once again be staying at this little gem of a hotel on Calle 11.

First time @ Amazonas - it was a great experience

Reviewed By ela_maria_78

We were a group of seven friends and travelled to the Amazonas for five days staying at Paraiso Ayahuasca for the whole time. The rooms were clean and had enough space. The windows had fly screens, but we installed additionally our mosquito net. Safety first ?. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. If you plan your trip with a guide (Recommendation: take a guide to dive into all the topics of the Amazonas) ask for Romani. He is the best. Mention, you need spanish skills. Thanks Romani for the amazing experience.

The most remarkable thing about our place that is close to nature, five minutes walking and you're already swimming in a lake, walking in the forest or making fire in our 'finca' which is located ten minutes walking from home. So basically you don't have to go on expensive tours to enjoy nature that is just next to your sleeping place.

The best place to stay in Leticia!

Reviewed By Andrew B

Here is the rundown, The owners have a few different kinds of accommodations ranging in price and location. The more costly beds are in this beautiful house, clean and fully equipped, there is an outdoor shower that is just delightful, and an ambiance that exudes tranquility. The more affordable accommodations are about .4 miles away at a camp site that is fully equipped with beds, a kitchen with a propane stove, hammocks, a river near by, and just the most interesting travelers from all walks of life. I decided to spend my time at the camp site simply for the experience, though I was allowed to spend time at the hose for showers and relaxing. I met some of the most interesting people. If you are lucky you will meet Clever, he is an indigenous fellow from the Putumayo region of Colombia, he keeps on eye on the camp site for the owners. He is a real ubermensch.

Great Hostel with everything you need in a great location.

I loved this Hostel. It had great staff that where more like friends and family than staff, great rooms, a great location and full sized kitchen. Juanita the local who runs it was absolutely amazing. She is a local who found me when I stepped out of the airport. Juanita was honest. She arranged all my tours at a good price. She helped me make friends. She gave me a great price on the hostel. She visited with me throughout the stay to make sure everything was going well. And she took me on a couple tours herself. This is the only place that I will be staying in the future when I visit Leticia.

Can’t beat it

I can only second the other reviews. You definitely get more than you pay for with a couple of clarifications. If you look for the Hilton, go elsewhere. If you want to be downtown, this is not it. You need to get a tuk tuk (easy) and pay 3000 pesos for up to 3 people to get there in less than 10 minutes. What you get is a nice, smaller room. Mine was good for 2 people in a queen bed. Comfy mattress. Private shower and toilet. Good A/C and tv. A good breakfast is also included. Internet is Slow, but works except during the frequent downpours. The hosts are very friendly, but speak only Spanish. They did our laundry for 2000 pesos a piece. For us, it was the perfect place to stay. We definitely would stay there again.
