Reviewed By 907cleapMy daughter and I stayed with Fernando at Casa de Vista Alta and it was the cherry on top of our wonderful trip to Ecuador! Sitting on their terrace felt like being in a green velvet jewel box surrounded by colorful cloud forest birds! We were greeted by Toucans, hummingbirds and very friendly staff! Both our fish dinners were memorable, (arguable the best we had in a month in Ecuador) and full breakfasts, with fresh scones to top it all, were outstanding too. Nothing was too much for Fernando and his always smiling staff, from checking bus timetables, to arranging transfers to the airport. It was wonderful having a host and owner who speaks such perfect English and is so engaging. He even took us on a birding hike in the forest, which was a real treat. A birders paradise!!! The room was perfect, with super comfy beds and pillows, and a great hot shower too. We loved all the spoils, the chats and the genersl general atmosphere. Reviewed By Colibri_GrandeMindo is well-known to birders and is indeed a great place to visit cloud forests and small reserves with tons of tanagers and hummingbirds etc. In addition to birders, Mindo also attracts rafters and other tourists. There are plenty of places to stay in town, but that might not be for everyone, and for those people,there's Sachatamia. It;s not "just for birders", but it is "great for birders." Sachatamia is maybe ten-fifteen minutes outside of Mindo center, and is set on a gorgeous property consisting of cloud forests and areas undergoing reforestation, adjoining a large protected forest. It consists of a main building for dining, reception, and comfortable seating for groups to have drinks or coffee etc. In the main building there are also rooms upstairs, in addition to detached cabins further into the property. When we arrived it was pouring rain and the staff very considerately offered us a room in the main building to avoid the torrent. We took a look at the rooms, which were nice, but decided to keep our cabin, mainly becasue the steps going up to the rooms are a bit steep. Maybe we're overly cautious, but we always think of what would happen if one of us got hurt, and that would be No More Trip. So despite the rain, we chose to stay in our cabin suite. The cabins are actually divided into two separate suites, so technically we had a half a cabin, but it is still roomy enough for our stuff and us. There's nothing fancy but it's cozy and clean and everything works. In addition to a wonderful early AM bird blind, there are numerous hummingbird feeders on the property, that in turn attract tons of hummingbirds. Nothing too unusual for Mindo, but it's a gorgeous setting and the staff were nice enough to set us up with a table so my wife and I - and our guide/friend Nelson - could have lunch and drinks with the birds. We loved it! And in fact, the staff there are what made Sachatamia not just a nice place to stay; they made it a wonderful place to stay! It's always the case: Service (or lack thereof) always makes the difference between properties, at any price point. Sachatamia is not a luxury property, but it is a beautiful property, with good dining, great location, and a wonderful group of people there to make your visit to Mindo unforgettable. We loved our time at Sachatamia, and would happily revisit it in the future. Thank you everyone!

Beautiful, rustic accommodations and great location!
Reviewed By Eric POur room for 2 nights was in the main lodge overlooking the cabins, and behind them, the beautiful pool and hot tub. Room was clean and roomy, beds comfortable. Cooked-to-order breakfast. Great location just a half-block from the main square with shops, lots of restaurants, and the bus station a block away. Discovered that booking.com didn't collect full payment upfront, and La Posada's credit card machine was not working, so had to deposit remaining lodging balance into their bank when we got back to Quito. Owners were very accommodating working with us through this situation. They warmed up the hot tub on request and it and the pool were wonderful.

It is just one hour from the Middle of the World and the Equator Museum; it offers incredible experiences for nature lovers and especially for bird watchers, there are 342 bird species in the reserve. : Also the hummingbirds’ area is fascinating and the walks offer fascinating views. The pool area is very spacious one with natural spring water and other covered and heated, Jacuzzi for 12 guests and several recreation areas. The game room has a beautiful fireplace and the Convention Center offers space for 100 characters. The reading room has a satellite TV and it has a quiet atmosphere, perfect to reading and relaxing.
Poor experience - needs urgent refurbishment

However, when we checked in we were asked if we wanted a king-sinze bed or two single beds. We opted for the first and were given a room that was in poor conditions: the room was humid and heavily smelling of mold and was really needing some refurbishment. My wife had heavily allergy attacks. Assuming this was the standard we stayed. Later on we realized that far more modern and clean rooms were availble and empty, but had two single beds. Knowing this in advanced we would have selected the cleaner rooms. The staff was gentle, but - including the manager on duty - could not speak English at all. Overall we would not recommend this place knowing that there are better lodges nearby.

Además visitan el jardín ardillas guatuso y en la noche raposa murciélago zarigueya y cusumbo este último animal duerme en la Hostal desde el 10 de junio del 2018 y ahora es el animal mimado del jardín. Visítenos y descanse en un lugar tranquilo rodeado de una naturaleza excepcional. El precio por habitación es de 25 dolares la noche.
Best Birdwatching in Mindo
Reviewed By MattAbt0429I tried birdwatching in a few places and this was my favorite. It’s because they attract the birds with several feeders and by hanging bananas from the trees. You pay $5 to sit out on a covered terrace and watch birds flying all around in the surrounding gardens. You can also order coffee, etc. I saw tons of hummingbirds and maybe 6-7 other species. I’d definitely recommend it!

The menu had a lot to offer from local Ecuadorian dishes to American staples, and everything in between. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I had the chicken with legume stew, my daughter had the Hawaiian chicken, son had the spaghetti bolognese, and my wife had the steak served on a hot stone. The food portioned were big, the taste delicious, and the price spot on for the quality & quantity of the food we received.

We are located in a rural village two hours from the capital "Quito", inside the Cloud Forest, a place to relax and ideal for those who love nature. Mindo is a town away from the noise and chaos of the city, is a growing parish known for its exquisite flora and fauna. Ananaw is 600 meters from the town, accessed by one of the principal roads of the town, the roads are dirt and the streets still no lighting, it is advisable to bring flashlights for night walks. Mindo is a safe town, without delinquency because its people live mainly from tourism. Ananaw offers rooms for single, double and triple in small rooms but well equipped, our rooms are 12 square meters, all rooms have private bathroom with hot shower.Ananaw is a small hotel in the town, attended by its owners so that you get personal attention and careful. The breakfast, internet access in the common area and the daily cleaning of your room are courtesies that you receive during your stay.
Pretty spot just outside of the hustle and bustle
Reviewed By Davidy1992We stayed here for 3 nights this May and found the owner to be very kind and friendly. The rooms are spacious and windows tinted for privacy but still bright from the Inside! At night there are sensor lights which are nice when walking back to your room. We would recommend staying here. We thought the walls were quite thin and led to us hearing neighbours quite late on one occasion. Also our suggestions to the owner for improvements, give a second toilet roll when setting up the room and also a small side lamp would be a great addition to the rooms.

Shower is a disaster, service was not good, they don't have swimming poll towels, told us we should use the ones in our room, we stayed there for 2 days and they didn't have cleaning services
