Huamantla (Spanish [wama'ntla] (help·info)) is a small city in Huamantla Municipality located in the eastern half of the Mexican state of Tlaxcala. The area has a long indigenous history, but the city itself was not founded until the early colonial period, in the 1530s. It is mostly agricultural but it is best known for its annual homage to an image of the Virgin Mary called Our Lady of Charity. This includes a month of festivities, the best known of which are the “night no one sleeps” when residents create six km of “carpets” on the streets made from colored sawdust, flowers and other materials. The other is the “Huamantlada” a running of the bulls similar to that in Pamplona.

we were so surprised to drive up to the cabins and see that they had hot water tanks and fireplaces, full kitchens, separated sleeping quarters, bathrooms with flush toilets and a shower. The hike to the top was challenging bc the altitude was a big change for us. The path up is mostly obvious but the last part is quite challenging right now bc of the snow they have received this year. We had great guides from OMG (Orizaba mountain guides) using this as a prep hike for Orizaba. The park area is beautiful.

A beautifully done small museum. Worth the time. It is the basic collection of a famous Mexican family of puppeteers from the early 20th century plus puppets from around the world. Very well displayed, very nice people, shouldn't be missed if you are close.

Canadian family of 4 visiting with Mexican friends visited this museum in January 2015. Nice place. We arrived at the end of the day so we didn't fully benefit from the exhibits but it was still interesting and I believe that it was free, but I'm not sure 100%.

This convent has a very beautiful church for the public with a mix of ethnicity and baroque style , the main altar its done with stone of several colors. The entry was decorated with the Tlaxcala traditional tapestry of wood of colors during the celebration of their parties. Very beautiful to see .

It is an extraordinary place that will give you magnificent views from above. It will take you about 4 hours to reach the top (4,200 meters above sea level) and another 3 hours to return to the base. You need good physical condition. Really great experience for anyone, even for short walks and hiking. Very safe place for foreigners, they have Forest Rangers, Rescue Team and the best Quesadillas and Mexican food at the bottom of the mountain (you will love it when you are starving after the exhausting hours of hiking!)
