Cafe Los Portales

I would definitely not recommend this place. First, it just seems dirty and dusty. Dead bull heads cover the walls, and it seems like they are kind of old and moldy. The place just seemed like it needed a good house-cleaning and a complete overhaul of the decor. The food was pretty poor as well. We tried a little bit of everything in the buffet, and didn't find anything we would particularly recommend. Service was slow.

Looking at Tripadvisor I recommended the restaurants to the rest of our group. The last time one of us was here 7 years ago and apparently it wasn’t that good. So here we go. 4 adults and one child in Tlaxcala. Late Lunch with something more typical for here. Well, all the menu is typical so it is hard to choose from. Ensure that at least one person of your group knows Spanish and is familiar with the local cuisine, English menus are not available. As mentioned before, the entire menu is typical, so if you don’t be afraid just order and you will be amazed. Fantastic flavors, mild to spicy, in general more fried, but again, we are looking for something more authentic here. Try the special rabbit of the house. Hadn’t had rabbit for a while, therefore something I really enjoyed. Everything else from our group was delicious too, but don’t expect a light Lunch. When you leave here, you are done for the day. One thing which is still amazing is the price. The total bill is most probably the price for one person in a middle fancy restaurant back home. Here you are done for the day and you paid for 4 adults and one child incl. beverages. Will be back for more.

The food was good, I liked my wife's arrachera more than my barracuda. We were 9 people and everybody seemed to enjoy the food. We paid 700 pesos for soups, entrees, beer, coffee and desert for two people.
The restaurant is huge, with a lot of tables. There are many waiters but it seems they move all together so there are either 5 of them by your table or none. We waited for someone to bring us the check for a long while.
After the meal, we went outside, and the friend's kids played in the playground and petting zoo area. Outside is very dusty, and kids make extra dust with their feet because that is what they do.
There is a horseback riding for kids, it seems fun. There is a green area with soccer goals in the middle, we played there for a while.
There is also a bar by the playground for the parents where we also hanged out. Overall, it was a good trip there.

Just arriving in Tlaxcala, we were really hungry and tired. We had a meal here that was so satisfying in a delightful atmosphere. We each had one of the salmon dishes that were beautifully prepared, We tried several tastes of wines before settling on the perfect choice for our meal. Try their homemade bread, hot and toasted! The dessert was a frozen chocolate cream paired with a pond of white cream and fruits flavored with mezcal, Go to this place! The menu is extensive.

We love this place! They play great classic Mexican music from the 1940s, make fantastic pulque and the food is really good. I had the pipian rojo with pork and my wife had the Chile en nogada. Both were fantastic. I had two kinds of pulque, the regular and the nuez. Oh, yum!!!

This place has very good stakes, but what I loved the most is that it has a huge garden, so you feel like your outside of the city on a camping site, but I would still consider it down town because it's just a couple of blocks away from the main park.
You can sit indoors or out, but always with a roof over your head in case it rains or to block the sun rays.

100% recomendable.

In a great atmosphere, with a very nice decoration, the food in this restaurant was excellent, we had the change to try different meat cuts and all of them were great (The wood-grill gives the perfect flavor), the empanadas are awesome, and the service it is the perfect complement of all this.
