Cullinan Diamond Mine

Reviewed By Hankster43081 - Westerville, Ohio

We did the underground tour of this operating diamond mine with 2 other persons plus our SA guides and the diamond mine guide, George. We were given boots, oversuits, helmet, helmet lights and escape air supply equipment. After a short training video we descended about 2400 feet below the surface and proceeded to walk about 5 miles underground observing the unloading of mine cars and maintenance operations. Surfacing about 2 hours later we were given the opportunity to purchase a variety of diamonds. There is strict security inside and out of the mine and cell phones are not allowed. This was an incredible experience!

We were welcomed by two wonderful women signing their welcome song and received our welcome drinks. We were then led to the restaurant area where we enjoyed a delicious healthy breakfast that has been freshly prepared just for us. We spent the rest of the morning getting the various massages and treatments that form part of the full day package. By far the best treatment for the whole day was the Turkish bath. I have never felt more relaxed and pampered in my life!
We had a scrumptious lunch that was again freshly prepared and healthy which after we could have slept for at least a week. Ended of the day with the remainder of the treatments and spent some time in the big and beautiful pool surrounded by the sounds of the bush. The owner and host checked on us regularly to ensure that we enjoyed our day and the therapists were wonderful.
For a wonderful and relaxing day less than an hour from Pretoria you can not go wrong with Ukuthula.

Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary

Reviewed By J5648NHpat

This is an incredibly wonderful place and definite must visit for those wanting an up close and personal experience with lions, cheetahs and hyenas.
We were fortunate to spend a day at the Lion and Cheetah Sanctuary in January. The love and care given to the animals at this sanctuary is nothing like we ever encountered before and truly is refreshing to witness!
The staff are welcoming and hospitable - eager to share their stories as well as those of all the animals living in the sanctuary. Stories of Sam, the white lion saved from being exported, cheetahs and hyenas rescued from reserves to even free roaming horses and stray dogs needing a home.
I find it impossible to measure this 'wildlife' experience to any other! Thank you Alan and team for a memorable day!

Life Ballooning

Reviewed By Eveleigh6531 - Cape Town Central, South Africa

This was the most amazing, wonderful experience I have ever had, from beginning to end it was magical, to view the sunrise over the mountain while you are floating in the sky looking down on the mist slowly evaporating as the sun begins to wake up, gently moving over houses, vineyards and dams, I can't begin to tell you what an awesome event this was. An early start to the day, but the weather although crisp, was perfect for Life Ballooning, and it remained perfect throughout our flight. I strongly recommend this to the adventurous travellers. It is weather permitting, and although quite pricey it is worth every cent. Our Crew was fantastic. This is definitely a "Bucket List" event. I will do this again :)

Zonderwater Italian POW

Reviewed By TourEssence - South Africa

The first Sunday of November, the Italian community hold a service to pay tribute to the Italian soldiers imprisoned at Zonderwater during WW2 (near the diamond mining town of Cullinan). It is through paying tribute to this part of our history that many South African Italians are able to appreciate the history of their fathers and grandfathers ... A very emotional experience. The military cemetery is incredibly beautiful and well-maintained, with Italian craftsmanship to be seen all around. We visited today 2 November 2014, and the rose bushes were also absolutely beautiful.

Tour Cullinan

Cullinan Tourism and History takes you on an underground mine tour to a depth of 763 meters underground. We also do a motorized surface tour onto the plant of the mine and there is the village historical tour of the town of Cullinan for all ages.

After another activity fell through, due to its accessibility from Johannesburg (less than a 1.5-hour drive) where we were based, we opted to take the Journey of a Diamond Tour. It was an afternoon well spent. The tour was led by Byron, who was engaging and knowledgeable. This is a surface tour of the diamond mine works on the back of an open-sided truck. Highlights were the “big hole” (apparently larger than the famous “big hole” in Kimberley) where the mining originally took place and a view of the mine and surrounding area from the top of one of the mine dumps. A particularly interesting fact was the ongoing programme to extract diamonds from the waste produced from historical mining activity. The tour lasts about 1.5 hours, making it an excellent half-day activity departing from Johannesburg or Pretoria.

Horse Riding Adventure

Reviewed By JUSTINE-JESSE - Pretoria, South Africa

My daughter and some friends enjoyed her birthday on horseback this year. Some of the girls were inexperience while others were very experienced. The horses were calm and well mannered. Those that wanted to go for a canter separated from the group. The picnic box afterwards was nice. We bought ice cold drinks from the venue afterwards. Lovely view of the area.
