Super Evening Meals, but ....
Reviewed By alexingohrThe hotel is fine, well situated, quiet and near the castle. On various levels, if park and then unload you have problems. Access is via main road. When you are in the hotel you have a key to access from the car park. Evening meals were super and evening service in the restaurant fine. But breakfasts? Well we were there two nights, Saturday and Sunday, but Monday morning's breakfast was left overs from Sunday, not only that whereas Sunday morning was super, Monday was very poor, no bacon, no fruit juice, not really a buffet, missing rolls, etc. The description (in English) in the room is funny, e.g. the car park entrance is at the backside. etc. etc. I offered for free to update the description, but my offer was ignored.

Reviewed By PatrikBlackForestWe stayed fort two nights during Sidecarecross WM in Straßbessenbach in the hotel. A lot of parking space. Absolut fast and uncomplicated check in. The room (comfort room) a huge surprise. The room was as huge as the surprise. I can’t remember to have such a big room. The bathroom was much more spacious I had for the whole room in other hotels i stayed. You will see it at the pictures. All was absolute clean and perfect. The beds are very good and very quiet in the night. We had also a sofa and a desk and really enough space in the wardrobe. Whow! For disabled people, you can use the elevator. A really wonderful room. The breakfast, all what you need. Lot’s of cereals, fresh fruit, cheese, sausages, and different kind of eggs and “Weißwurst” (Bavarian). You can enjoy the breakfast in an relaxed atmosphere. And it’s enough for all, also on hour later. The staff us very is really very friendly and helpful. We can strongly recommend the restaurant. It taste very very good. So for us it’s a must. So all in all a fantastic good hotel and we can strongly recommend it.

Reviewed By 7Linda2017Another trip to Germany, another overnight stay in Gasthof zum Spessart and the wonderful breakfast is still one of the best we have had in Germany. So much delicious food with amazing choice. Good beer in the bar and tasty evening meal. Lovely spacious bedroom with balcony and big bathroom with very good shower. Pleasant staff (although you might need your German phrase book). Convenient for an overnight from the A3, but worthwhile staying a few days to explore the area - Mespelbrunn Castle and Aschaffenburg. Excellent value for money.

Fantastic stay with friendly host
Reviewed By AAristeWe had a quick stay at Haus Sonnenschein, as we arrived at 22:00 and left at 10:00. First of all, this was not a problem for our wonderfull host. He was very friendly and welcoming. The room was totally clean and the beds were delightfull. The breakfast was all you could wish for and we even got bags to make ourselves a take-away lunch. We did the half an hour walk to the wonderfull castle and it was no problem for our host to leave our car at the hotel. If you ever come across Mespelbrunn, stay at Haus Sonnenschein!

Nice restaurant, hotel a bit run down
Reviewed By JSVVI'm of two minds about zum Engel. On the one hand there's this very friendly staff and a nice restaurant with also friendly prices and then there's our room... The room we got was overlooking the garden, which was nice. At the same time it was over the kitchen (at least the kitchen ventilation) as we were constantly in the smell of deep fried food once we opened the door to the balcony. Also the corridor and the room itself smelled musty and it was obvious that the latest maintenance was a long time ago. Stains in the carpet, mould in the shower stall, a defect reading light above the bed, a damaged bathroom door, a shower which alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold.... The restaurant was a pleasant surprise: good food at very decent prices. Also the breakfast was excellent. Will I go back? There are plenty of good alternatives close by...

Reviewed By Malcolm BStayed here for a long weekend while in Grermany for the Sidecarcross Grand Prix, what a charming and lovely wee Hotel, set in woodlands down a narrow lane, rooms were clean tidy and roomy, breakfasts were excellent, faclities were excellent, and the hostess was more than helpful, looks like an old Hunting Lodge, rooms all had balconies, and views over the gardens and fish ponds were lovely, quiet, secluded and welcoming, as well as being good value
