9 Bus Transportation in Vancouver That You Shouldn't Miss

May 7, 2022 Vergie Nakamoto

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

New York has the the Staten Island Ferry, which, granted, has its own unique charm. But you need to “Go West” young man to British Columbia for the real deal. There are no roads through most of littoral BC so the way to get around is by ferry and these are top notch. Traveling from Victoria BC to Vancouver we took the 90 minute crossing from Swartz Bay (45 mins north of Victoria) to Tawassen just south of Vancouver. Big, bright, quiet and comfortable, the ship was a dream with unexpectedly good and reasonably priced restaurants, plenty of comfortable seating, and wide promenade decks to view the passing scenery (and oh what scenery!). Really a high light in just getting there. There’s something about ship travel that makes one slow down and smell the roses or, in this case, the salt air. BC Ferry Connector is superb and efficient comfortable bus - downtown Victoria to downtown Vancouver (drops you off at the Fairmont on W. Georgia St) - with driver who has great sense of humor. Just added to overall great trip.

Epic Rides

I used this coach service to travel return from Vancouver to Whistler. I found them through a google search & selected the company based on their excellent price point of $35 return (full fare), which was far cheaper than any other company offering the same service. I had a little difficulty initially figuring out which bus stop to wait at as the only instruction was to meet at Melville & Burrard Street, which became confusing as there were multiple bus stop bays. I would suggest also listing which bay to wait at because various companies use these bus stops. I ended up finding them once the bus arrived (it was bay 1 or in front of the hotel on Melville St). The coach was extremely clean & in excellent condition. The bus driver was very professional & friendly, even providing a tip on which side offered the best view for first timers to Whistler (driver's side) on the way there. The seats were comfortable & reclined back, with adjustable air conditioning & lighting above. A very smooth ride & a company I will travel with again in the future.

After trying out several shuttle service from Vancouver to Whistler, Snowbus / Westcoast sightseeing is definitely my #1 choice. Friendly drivers, spacious and clean coach. For under $40, definitely a steal. The Sunday whistler to Vancouver night shift driver was very helpful to provide transit advices and traffic update for the international/non-local travellers who needs to catch a flight. And the most important thing is, they take safety precaution very seriously, which I deeply appreciate and agree upon. Safe, friendly and comfortable ride. Snowbus is definitely my option for next time.

Ebus

I travelled one way from Kamloops to Surrey Guilford location on January 3rd, 2021. After reading some of the negative comments, I was worried that I would be taking a third world bus but was impressed and more than satisfied. From easy to book the trip online the day before to cleanliness of the bus interior to having comfortable, reclining seats with foot room (as opposed to airplane economy seats) to keeping a perfect schedule to having a friendly and courteous driver, I thoroughly relaxed and enjoyed my trip. Best part, I didn't have to worry about winter driving conditions. It was all excellant, would highly recommend the e bus. 10 out 10, would ride again. Gord in New Westminster, B.C.
