Jugendstilhotel Trifels

Kurhaus Trifels - holiday, conference and wedding location and a first-class restaurant with a high quality standard. The listed historic building has an elegant old-times charm, but thanks to vast renovations with modern comfort. Our guests enjoy, besides the gorgeous surroundings and the lovely castle view, the good breakfast buffet, the free wifi and the club lounge with table-top soccer and pool billard. The restaurant at Kurhaus Trifels serves a fresh and creative modern-European cuisine. A point is made of using good-quality ingredients, which are mostly organic and locally sourced. It's part of the concept to offer not only high quality meat and fish dishes but also a good selection of vegetarian and vegan meals. The twenty hotel rooms have a natural and hygienic linoleum flooring and are easily accessible using the lift. The beddings are made of allergy friendly material. Some rooms are equipped with a flatscreen TV (please ask when you're booking), some have a balcony, some have castle view and some are especially quiet with view to the forest.

A most peculiar place (Kurhaus Trifels Seminarhotel)

Reviewed By solotravellerCanada

This hotel is run by a non-profit organization. Based on my experience when I stayed here, it can be easily guaranteed that this hotel will never make a profit. The building is a 100 year old Beaux-Arts facility that was totally renovated in 2011. It is located at the end of the road, up an alpine valley, in a perfect, quiet, tranquil, very beautiful location. Rooms are about €60 a night, and breakfast is another €6. These prices are ridiculously low considering the quality of the location, the view, the tranquility, and the historic building. But... ...the hotel is not really in the business of catering to travellers. It is a seminar and meeting facility that is operated by a group of post-secondary schools in the region. All rooms are somewhat small and simple (though very modern and comfortable), all the rooms have twin beds only (no double beds), there are no televisions in any of the rooms, no mini-bar, etc. Basically, they are dormitory-type rooms, like what you would find in a student residence. I stayed one night, and was quite delighted. I asked to prolong my stay for a second night, which was agreed, but a few hours later, the desk clerk knocked on my door and told me that I had to leave by 13:00 - the manager had decided to "close" the hotel that day. I can't blame the manager for closing up shop, because I was the only guest in this 35 room property. But, still, I have never heard of this happening before - someone deciding to "close the hotel for the day" and throwing out a guest in order to accomplish this. If you intend to stay here, it is essential that you contact the hotel ahead of time and determine 1) if they will be 'open' when you wish to visit, and 2) if there are any rooms available to the general public. I get the impression that this facility is really only concerned with catering to the meeting and seminar business that comes from their sponsoring organizations, and they really have no interest at all in operating as a "normal" hotel. Or - if they do want to operate as a "normal" hotel when there are no meetings or seminars taking place, then they sure have a lot to learn about how to run a hotel. There is a restaurant on the main floor that offers quite a nice dinner menu. I got the impression that the restaurant was run as a separate business, but I am not certain of this. Parking is free, and wi-fi is free. The hotel website is http://www.kurhaus-trifels.de The website of the non-profit organization that operates the hotel is http://www.denk-raum.org I suggest you visit these two websites before making a booking.

The hotel is also called by its German translation, 'Zum Alten Wasserrad' (which is the name actually painted on it!). Interesting old building in a quiet picturesque spot near the centre of the small town. Friendly welcome, and nice Italian paintings throughout. Difficult to find by car through a maze of narrow streets, but that was partly due to a temporary diversion in the town for building works. We were able to park free in a very small car park belonging to the hotel about 100M away, but I imagine there would be no room when the restaurant is open. Then you have to use a public car park a slightly longer walk away. Large first-floor room, very comfortable beds. The description on the booking site we used says the rooms are 'bright', but ours had small windows (it is an old building) and low-powered light bulbs, for which there is really no excuse in these days of compact fluorescent or LED bulbs. There was no plug in the basin. The television in the room had few channels and very poor picture quality. The wifi was weak and slow, even though there was a choice or three routers, but we were told that it was due an upgrade. The name of the router was incorrectly spelled in the information in the room. The restaurant was disappointingly closed for two weeks' holiday a month earlier than the period mentioned in the booking website we used. The nearest restaurant was also closed for holidays, but the Goldener Löwe gave a us a very friendly welcome and served some tasty local specialities. Very good choice at breakfast, especially if obtainable for the €7.50 at which it was priced on our bill (it seems to be included in all hotel room rates). The booking website says that the hotel does not accept credit cards, but we paid with one.

Pension Bergterrasse

ideal stop-off point

Reviewed By JohnboyausGastein

I always stay a night at the Bergterasse on journeys between England and Austria, as it's almost exactly half-distance. There is always a warm welcome from all of the staff, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the rooms are extremely comfortable with excellent bathrooms. There is a superb buffet breakfast and it's just a short walk from the picturesque little town centre. I hope to enjoy many more stays here over the next few years.

Ice

Reviewed By StefanLechner

Eschers Eiswerk is for ice aficionados and the lot: downstairs a choice of ice with toppings after a long day walk. Anyway, the rooms are fine and look new, although eight year old. Well maintained and comfortable and thus a convenient place to stay. All in all the private owned gästhaus with a friendly inhaber and the solid German  breakfast with potato salad in the adjoining café-backerei completes you stay. Worth a detour in combination with  the water mill and the old village centre.

Hexenhauschen am Waldrand

Für Liebhaber des Besonderen

Reviewed By 1964chrisj

Inn Trifelsblick

Leider sehr schlecht

Reviewed By Juliane R

Nun, der Engländer würde sagen "You get what you pay for".
