8 Things to Do in Taba That You Shouldn't Miss

September 6, 2017 Ying Subia

Taba, situated on the Red Sea's Gulf of Aqaba at the junction of Egypt and Israel, is a stone's throw from a truly impressive range of sites.  Excursions to nearby Castle Zaman provide a rare view of four countries simultaneously, and the Colored Canyon is an obstacle course ripe for exploration.  The Marriott Taba Heights Red Sea Resort awaits tourists following their day trips with its very own therapeutic Salt Cave, ideal for unwinding in luxury.

Salah El-Din Castle

Reviewed By sugarcone - Amman, Jordan

Anyone who likes to visit palaces, Castles and ancient ruins will want to visit this well maintained castle located on Pharaoh's Island, in the Gulf of Aqaba. This castle was built in the time of the Muslim leader Salah al-Din Ayyubi in the late 12th century AD to secure the Gulf of Aqaba against foreign invasions, and secure the way of pilgrimage and trade routes.
When you stand on the top of a tower in the Citadel of Salah al-Din you can clearly see the borders of four countries; Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the borders of occupied Palestine.

Taba Heights Golf Resort

Designed by John Sanford, a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the course meets American and European architectural standards for golf courses. The gentle slopes of the fairways take full advantage of both sea and mountain views and the course offers an impressive 7100 yards between the 1st and 18th hole. The total course area cleverly spans the central section of the resort's overall property, linking the different hotels and beachfront. The course provides an exciting game with various rolling elevations ranging from 4 to 70 meters above sea level. With five sets of tees on each hole, players have ample opportunity to improve their game or abide by their actual handicap level. Three challenging lakes, as well as several sand bunkers, native desert areas, and elevated fairways will test players' abilities. Each hole has five sets of tees and three holes offering plays alongside the Red Sea waters.

Played course in the autumn, beautiful views and the course was in great shape. I timed it so that I had twilight rates which made very reasonable indeed. Buggy is essential as it gets very warm indeed. Sad to see that course was practically empty every time I played. Staff very welcoming and clubs cleaned after the round.

My scuba couldn't have been better. Huw and the team are amazing, super knowledgeable and accommodating. I went out with Mohammad, the best dive guide I've ever had, on a three dive boat day that included a nice lunch on board. Fantastic dives. Same with the shore dive, the Canyon, the day after. Mohammad and I saw EVERYTHING, including cruising with a turtle fir a while. Words can not describe it all.

Taba Excursions - Day Tours

I tried to plan a journey from Jerusalem down to Sahrm El-Sheikh but found it impossible to know information about the buses from the Egyptian side onwards. If you are planning on doing the same, and I recommend this journey, you may want to stop at the Tobya Boutique Hotel on the way down (please see my review of the hotel). The problem is that there are few buses from Taba down the South Sinai. However, I took photos of the timetables in question and I hope these will be of help to future travellers.
The bus station is 1km from the Taba border and within easy walking distance. You don't need to take a taxi. Just say no thank you firmly to those offering you a ride.
After the huge Hilton and Movenpick resorts, you will see the bus station on your left. There are little shops here. Haggle over prices; 2 bottles of water (1 1/2 litre) should cost you 10EGP tops.
The price of the journey to Sharm is 35EGP and not 45 as posted in the wikipedia article. The bus goes down through the South Sinai and stops first at Nuweiba and then at Dahab. Both stops last at least 10 mins, enough time to get water, food and WC. At Dahab you should be expected to pay to use the toilet; 2EGP is enough.
Some drivers will actually drop you off exactly where you want to go. On our return North, we asked to be left at the Tobya abd the driver kindly stopped right outside the hotel thus saving us a 1km taxi ride / walk. Not only are the buses a great way to travel, they are also comfortable and have a/c.
Be prepared to stop at various checkpoints along the way. These exist for your safety and don't take more than a couple of minutes each.
I have included the timetables of buses each way, first from Taba and then from Sharm. IMPORTANT: The buses that have been cut out of the timetable do NOT RUN ANYMORE. Meaning that the only bus from Taba to Sharm is at 15h00 and return at 09h00. Bear in mind that Israel is +2 GMT and Egypt +1 GMT.
Total journey time: between 3h40 and 4h10.

Nice place for Safari & hiking first you go with a 4x4 car, then you start hiking in the Mountains for about 30 min. "not suitable for elder people & some places you have to climb using a robe in narrow places between rocks" at the top you found a swim able natural pool between the Mountains, overall it's a good experience.
