Liuxi River Forest Park

Reviewed By MRyanPhotography - Sydney, Australia

We went here on a day trip with family out of Guangzhou, from memory it took around 2 hours to get here.
We got onto a boat and motored around the lake, taking in the sights before landing on an island containing peacocks which we were able to feed.
From there we moved to what we referred to as monkey Island ... which speaks for itself. The island is covered in monkeys, which scurry down to the dock as the boat approaches. It seems they have eaten most of the eatable plants on the island thus their main source of food is the peanuts (which you buy before getting onto the boat for around Y5) and what ever else they are able to steal from the tourists or the boat.
There are also a markets selling traditional chinese foods, as well as rat jerky!
Its a wonderful day trip, we took a car, but I am not too sure how to get there by public transport? Well worth the time to get there!
On the way back to Guangzhou there is a number of mandarin orchards along the road, you are able to stop and pick your own, I cant remember how much it cost, but it was next to nothing!
Have a look at www.mryanphotography.com for more photos!

The Guangzhou Marking Tower of the Tropic of Cancer

The site is easily reached by taking bus n.9 from Jiakou coach station in Guangzhou (next to the Jiakou metro station). The ride costs 17 yuan per person and takes around 1,5 hours. The stop in Taipingzhen is right after Taipingzhen Road. After that, you have to walk for around 500m and you will find the Marking Tower on your left (marked by the brown sign of touristic sites).
There is not much to do or to see, but it is totally worth a visit if you have a spot for astronomy.
