Fort McMurray (/mɪkˈmʌri/ mik-MURR-ee) is a population centre, technically classified as an urban service area, in the Regional Municipality (RM) of Wood Buffalo in Alberta, Canada. It is located in northeast Alberta, in the middle of the Athabasca oil sands, surrounded by boreal forest. It has played a significant role in the development of the national petroleum industry. A severe wildfire in May 2016 led to the evacuation of its residents and caused widespread damage.

Great for the whole family. Always something going on, great meeting place. Love the library, sports events, pool and work out area. Lots of curling, skating, raquets sports and golf too. You can catch a hockey, football or baseball game here, go to a trade show and so many awesome concerts. A real gem for the community.

We tried the virtual reality and it was super fun. The staff are very helpful, friendly, and organized. They didn't start our half hour time limit until we were all set up and situated, which I thought was really good. The VR is set up in the concession (not in a room like it used to be) so anyone can watch you / have free entertainment. I'm definitely wanting to come back and play Beat Saber again. Call ahead to ensure availability. It was $30 for the two of us for half an hour.
