Business and conference city hotel, Velenje, Slovenia. Hotel Paka Velenje is a modern business and conference hotel. Located in the centre of Velenje, it represents the central meeting point of the town’s citizens. It has 53 rooms and 6 conference rooms equipped with all the technical resources for all forms of education. With its spatial capacities and technical equipment it allows excellent implementation of seminars, symposiums and conferences. It also has a cafe and a patisserie known far and wide for its excellent sweet pastries and an a la carte restaurant with an excellent culinary offer. In Hotel Paka, guests can visit individual saunas, park their vehicles in a protected garage, see a movie in the cinema, visit a beauty salon or have their eyes checked by an optician. Hotel Paka has received numerous awards in Slovenia and abroad. It is categorized as a four-star hotel.
Updated interior, but this is not enough
Reviewed By urosdernovsekI am rating only new restaurant Haus, not hotel/coffee shop, etc. Haus should be upscale steak house. But you can't reach that with new interior and smarter looking dressed waiters. Firstly, food, especially steaks, should be prepared perfectly. Ours were far from that. Excuse: the cook is off Monday-Tuesday. And? Who then prepared burned steak? Also waiters should have more knowledge about food and wines. On other occasion we had more-dish menu, from "correct" chef. This food was good, much better than steak mentioned above. Still, waiters should have knowledge of what we eat and about wine card. In general I was dissapointed, hope they can improve, and I hope to taste the steak from the real chef, if I will be lucky enough to be there when he is also at work.

Reviewed By T5803ULluismSe trata de una casa preciosa que está a las afueras de Velenje, en medio del campo. La habitación era muy amplia y el baño estaba muy bien y completo. Hacía frío y la calefacción funcionó perfecto. Lo recomiendo, es un alojamiento muy bonito y muy bien ubicado. El recepcionista muy educado, habla bien el inglés y el desayuno excelente, hecho al momento. Muy recomendable.

COVID toll
Reviewed By Dajzi13Our visit to Vila Herberstein revealed a sad impact that COVID had on the hospitality industry everywhere. As we were told by our waiter, a lot of staff both in kitchen and service were laid off due to prolonged closure of the restaurant. This review is a reflection of that; I can only hope that they will recover to what made them a restaurant to visit in that part of Slovenia. The lunch started with two good home baked breads (white and buckwheat with walnuts) and a cheese spread with way too much garlic in it. The wine list does not exist any more and the waiter (the three sommeliers from the web page are obviously no longer there) recited a short list of wines that they (still) had. Wines by the glass were poured at the bar (the guest can't even see the bottle), bottles are opened at the table, but the wine is not offered to be tasted. When you order a new wine, they change the wine only, but the glasses stay the same. The tasting menus are gone as well. Instead, they offer lunches (26 EUR per person) that are actually a great value. The menu is split into a "venison" and "other" (predominantly) fish part. The dishes are quite classic - innovativity was replaced by struggle for survival. The standard item on Slovenian weekend lunch menu - mushroom soup - was good. Plenty of mushrooms, a lot of fresh, properly cooked vegetables, and little buckwheat dumplings that added to flavor and texture. Both meats - guineafowl and veal - were perfectly cooked. Guineafowl had interesting sides: spiced chopped pistachios, grilled pumpkin, a potato dish with chopped spring onions, and broad beans. Unfortunately, the plating of a nice dish was very poor, in-line with a countryside inn and not a good restaurant. Veal was accompanied by a good mascarpone risotto and dull boiled vegetables. Again, the plating was very poor. The desert - a variety of "štruklji" was the weakest part of the lunch. They were undercooked, but when we mentioned that to the waiter, there was no response to that at all, just "it happens". Definitely a great value, decent food, very average service and poor plating. Let's hope that they keep what is good and improve what went wrong soon.

Reviewed By Jane Agreat host, great food. Everything fresh and self-produced at the farm. Their pumpring soup is a masterpiece. Best meat I have tried in Slovenia. it is a family run business and all been so kind and friendly. Very reasonable price.

Reviewed By misteri0ustravellerI wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It’s terribly old and probably hasn’t been renovated since the 50’s. That’s with the exception of the televisions and maybe the carpet and paint. There are very old rugs in the hallways and some of the rooms, but what stands out the most are the extremely huge frames that hang along the walls in hallways and the rooms. I mean this hotel literally tried to fill up every spot on every wall with these frames. And it just looks horrible. The furniture is also old and needs to be updated. The mattress for my bed was very hard, old, and uncomfortable. I didn’t get the best sleep at all. The bathroom looks ok, but reeked of mildew once the exhaust fan was turned on. The breakfast was horrible. This hotel is cheap, but I’m sure there’s someplace close with better accommodations that can’t be too much more. I just don’t understand why they won’t renovate.
