Great location, spacious room and very functional

Reviewed By maarie

A bit exxy but the room delivered. Very comfortable and functional, and super close to everything. If you’re keen on the spa bath, you might want to make sure it’s working first. It wasn’t for me and once in the bath, it was really too late to do anything about it. A small glitch, would happily stay here again.

Kaka Lodge and Ruru Lodge

Reviewed By Han_yinu

Two groups of us stayed at these accommodation's, one group in the 2 bedroom Kaka Lodge and one in the upstairs Ruru Lodge. The accommodation's are very well equipped and have very peaceful settings with some great views on site. The is also outdoor furnishings. Things to note are that Ruru Lodge needs to have the air con put on so the unit is cooled (in summer); this property is up an extremely steep drive (the first part is unsealed then it is sealed) up a steep drive past several properties up about 400 metres. This was daunting the first time but after driving up it a couple of times, it was no problem. There is plenty of flat parking on site near the rooms. The laundry is through the shared lobby area so recommend to keep (Kaka) door shut for privacy. I thought the photographs on line did not do the accommodations justice and they are much better in reality. The hosts were very helpful. We were kindly upgraded to the Kaka Lodge after we originally were booked for the smaller accommodation. This place is about 15 minutes from Matakana Village. Highly recommended for holiday accommodation and it is located next to the Tawharanui Lodge venue

Plume Villas

Stunning property but the service needs some work....

Reviewed By 45samuely

A really amazing property with a beautiful outlook while the villas themselves have been finished to a really high standard. Very clean and warm and perfect for a weekend away. We could not fault the actual accommodation. I had heard previous reports about the managers and their 'transactional' disposition and I have to agree - this aspect desperately needs some work. When we arrived it was as though the manager was doing US a favour by checking us in and taking our money and she seemed very cold and almost disgruntled we had interrupted her. There were numerous other instances where we encountered this 'disposition' and, to be quite honest, it is unacceptable in this current environment. Not to mention the fact these villas are not cheap so I would expect more warmth from the hosts. As mentioned, we had 4 or 5 instances where things were just 'off' and we just felt we were an inconvenience to the whole operation despite things being relatively quiet around the complex. Lastly, the villas need a small oven or, preferably, a BBQ to really round it all off.

We stayed here for 3 nights (2 adults and 2 teens), and wished we could have stayed for longer. We loved the heated pool, the tennis courts, the wharf, and the beautiful grounds. It was such a peaceful and relaxing time for us all, exactly what we needed. Nikki at reception was great at check-in and check-out. She is the perfect person for the job - bubbly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Staying at Riverside Matakana is the best of both worlds. You get a private bach, but the use of some fantastic facilities and the bach is serviced. And so close to Matakana too! Great value for money and we will be recommending it to everyone! Three days here felt longer because of how relaxing it was. We loved watching all the different birdlife and it was so peaceful at night. I don't think I've ever slept so well when away from home - partly because of the quiet and partly because of the extremely comfortable beds. We will be sure to return

Had a lovely time on our return visit thanks to Sharon "mine host" who is a font of knowledge and a fantastic chef, using local produce in the main. Fantastic views out to The Barrier Islands, nice and peaceful spot and the massages are to be recommended.

Great location for exploring

Reviewed By LovelyGLLL

Our unit was private with a stunning view over rolling hills and cows - out to the ocean. There were moorporks, pheasants and cockateils. Great location close to Matakana and Leigh. On arrival we enjoyed a glass of wine and cheese/crackers and the room was stocked with a loaf of beautiful fresh local bread, butter and spreads. A selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt. Fresh juice, spiruina and tea/coffee. Each morning fresh danishes were discretely delivered to our door with he Herald newspaper! Fresh flowers were everywhere - even on the outdoor table and chairs. Honestly it was beautiful! Bed was firm and comfortable. Stocked with everything you could need.

Fabulous Place to Step Away from Everything! I'll 'Be Back"!

Reviewed By AmericaOverEasy

The host at this venue was there when needed, and vanished when not... making this a perfect spot. Local area attractions were easy to get to, and plentiful... or, just reading one of the good books laid on, or playing a boardgame in the rain!? Magical. So often, the 'host' is underfoot, it's a special balance between 'being there' and 'being invisable'... This place's got Charm written all over it!
