7 Top-Rated Hostels hotel in Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands

May 6, 2023 Veronika Gaddis

How often do you get the chance to walk through a tunnel of lava? Created by the flowing and cooling process of liquid magma, the underground lava tubes of Santa Cruz are simply breathtaking. The most popular is the Tunnel of Love, so named for the heart-shaped hole in the ceiling. Cool down with a splash in the fresh waters of Puerto Ayora, snorkel at Tortuga Bay or the mangrove-lined Garrapatero Beach and get friendly with the giant natives at the El Chato Tortoise Reserve.

Disappointed in Every Way

BEWARE, DO NOT STAY HERE !!!! - Concrete drilling contruction underway, CRAZY NOISY! Can't hear yourself think let alone anyone you're trying to speak to at reception. Scratch off 'relaxing' from your to-do list right away. - No hot water! I was told to wait 20 mins for the hot water to start running. Did just that, no dice. Stay here if you love your cold showers. - No refund policy. For the reasons above I will be transferring myself elsewhere, and these crooks will keep almost $200 of my money. - At most one staff member speaks any English and works at the restaurant next door, not the hotel, so she can't directly help you with your reservation or room etc. Consider yourself SOL if you have any issues and don't speak Spanish. Also their reception is open, what? 8am - 6pm and otherwise good luck finding someone who works here. I get this isn't a posh 5-star hotel but for $75/night I expected much better. The bathroom doesn't even have any amenities like soap, shampoo or toothpaste, but I'll chalk that up to the islands'conservation efforts. Overall an incredibly disappointing experience, don't know how they have a high rating. One star for no cockroaches or having anything stolen (yet!). Do not recommend. -

Hostal El Pinzon

Hostel which offers family suites with kitchen and dining area; double and twin rooms with shared kitchen. It also has an indoor pool, sale of souvenirs and organic coffee produced in Galapagos. The hostel is located next to a park with playground, a clinic with hyperbaric chamber, 2 blocks from the Charles Darwin avenue where you can find ATMs, galleries, restaurants and bars overlooking the sea. Just 15 minutes away is the center of the Galapagos National Park and the beach "La Estacion".

Worst room

The price is right. The location is perfect, close to the Charles Darwin Center, grocery, laundry, nice little restaurant and the main city center. But we picked the cheapest room and it was awfull. Dirty. Strong smell. No window. Very noisy. We’re glad we saved money but we could have had a slightly better room. There’s a pool (we didnkt use) and the staff are always willing to help.

I was lucky to spend a month in this fantastic hostel. Priscila, Jorge, Fabian sand Julie were all so kind and welcoming as well as provided information of everything about the Galapagos. The location could not have been better and the hostel itself was very comfortable. I am looking forward to visiting again in the future

Disappointed

Reviewed By HUDRY B

We went there after booking online, this hostel had some of the best review in the island for the price. The room was good, with a small kitchen, very convenient, and also very quiet. We are really surprise to read so much good comments about the host, with us they were cold, not helpful and we had the felling to annoy them. We thought we could ask them tips about what to do in Ayora, nice walk or nice beach, but most of the time we could see anybody in the hostel. After such a long travel and so much money spend to come in the Galapagos, we expect at least a smile and a « welcome ». Also the location isn’t great, quite far from the center, and uphill. To conclude, the room was clean and good, but the host weren’t as friendly as expected. I guess you can find a similar habitation but much closer to the center.

This is the best location because it’s only 10 steps from all the best restaurants and best shopping. The rooms very clean. The room had a nice air conditioner. It had a beautiful room top patio with chairs. It was a wonderful experience and the lady speaks fluent english to direct you to the best tours. She is amazing! This is the best place to stay and the price was the best we found. I highly recommend her place. Canada

Hostile Ride Owner/ Manager

Reviewed By MiHermosoPlaneta

My stay here was very disturbing. The owner was all smiles and pleasant until you paid your money. The rooms on closer inspection were not very clean, it was noisy, there was absolutely no water when I needed a shower, not even in the sink. She finally turned on the water early that evening. Check out was at 9am or 9:30am but the maid banged on my door at 8am when I really needed sleep as I had been sick. The owner yelled at me rudely when I took some water from the water cooler, apparently she wants $1 contributed every time you take water but that hadn't been clear beforehand ... Which I'm ok with contributing some change but there should be a clear sign and she didn't need to be so nasty about it. The worst was when she asked for more money for the room ... I had unfortunately already paid another staff member earlier for the room .. I don't speak Spanish but my friend who was there at the time, speaks more spanish than me ... So this crazy woman decided to yell so rudely at my friend in Spanish while I had no idea why she was so upset or expected more money. Nothing was resolved so I left and paid again for another room. I couldn't get out of the place fast enough. I think the woman is mentally unstable. The stay here is not worth the cheap price if you can even get a cheap price. I think this woman is racist against foreigners, especially if you speak little spanish.
