7 Top-Rated Bed and Breakfast Inns in Vancouver, British Columbia

April 23, 2023 Concepcion Newsome

Canada's largest metropolis, Vancouver is a city of varied landscapes and diverse population. Its mix of the scenic and urban mean that weekenders can spend the morning taking advantage of its beaches, ski mountains, and hiking trails, only to kick back in the evening at first-rate restaurants and wine bars among a labyrinth of skyscrapers. As friendly and welcoming as it is ethnically diverse, the streets are crowded with different languages being spoken everywhere, and the city's sights, sounds, and flavors are a hodgepodge of warm multiculturalism. It is a haven both for the urbanite and the sportsman, offering all the sophistication of a modern city center, with a strong focus on the arts and a burgeoning cafe culture, but with charming suburban outlets and easy outdoor day trips. Though the city is often split into three districts, Vancouver and its surrounding environs feature multiple neighbourhoods, each with their own character and draw, in one massive conglomeration. Take your time and explore as many of them as possible.

West End Guest House

Harking back to the days when the West End was Vancouver’s first residential neighbourhood, the 1906-built West End Guest House was once home to the Edwards family – some of their photographs of early Vancouver adorn the walls. Current owners Paul Wylie and David Birch have modernised the interiors and plumbing (all rooms are en suite), while retaining a period charm. The eight individually styled and named guest suites range from lush garden level (Superior King Garden Suite) to cosy top floor (Deluxe king Suite). Complimentary gourmet breakfasts, free parking for each room and free Wi-Fi add to the charm. It is on historic Haro Street, with easy access to the nearby Stanley Park seawall, or Davie and Robson Street shopping areas. The parlour with hearth is ideal for winter contemplation, while the veranda and garden beckon in summer months.

It was my first time visiting Vancouver and I’m happy I picked the West End Guest House! This bed and breakfast is a gem. Beautiful house with unique antique style. The bedroom and bathroom had beautiful designs and the bed was comfortable and cozy. The staff were super friendly and accommodating during my stay. The breakfasts were delicious and they offer a togo breakfast sandwich if you aren’t able to make the set breakfast time. Very flexible. I enjoyed the best baked muffins and cakes while staying there. Great location in downtown in a lovely neighborhood. Close to a lot of main attractions and easy access to transit. I had a really great time staying there by myself and will recommend to my friends and family. I hope to be back soon! :) - Eliza

Convenient location to City Hall and VGH

Accommodation in Vancouver can be expensive but I found the Windsor to be very good value for the money. I was visiting my brother in hospital at VGH so the 10 minute walk on flat ground was very convenient. The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood 2 blocks from the Broadway Canada Line stop ( which is downhill to get to) Bus stops are even closer. My room was on the first floor and had a queen size bed, fridge, fireplace and on suite bathroom. It was very clean and although no A/C (which is typical for BC) was very comfortable. No trouble dropping luggage off before check in and coming and going is done by a code on the main door plus your room key. I didn't go with the breakfast as due to Covid it was only a tray left at your door. There are several coffee shops close by to get some breakfast. Also there are many restaurants along Cambie St for lunch or dinner. If you want to get anywhere a Compass card is worth the purchase. False Creek and access to Granville Island is a 10 minute walk downhill or one Canada Line stop. I would certainly stay here again.

Don't bother! I stayed in the Albert Room - a 2 queen bed family suite. While technically there are enough beds for 4 people, the living and kitchen space isn't big enough to hold 2 persons. On the plus side, the staff were friendly and responsive to my needs, the place was reasonably clean, and the bed was comfortable. In-floor heating was warm and relatively quiet. Good security and looks. I was moved from my original booked room to the Albert room and was told it "was a nicer room." If that's the case, I'd hate to see the original room. Tired and dated would sum up this garden level suite. The only seating area in this "family suite" was a love seat that was so old you sank to the floor when you sat. Next to the couch was a "kitchen." The stove had been removed. There was a hot plate, a bar fridge that worked fine as long as nothing was larger than 5 inches high, a microwave, and a toaster oven. No dishwasher, just an awkward corner sink with a tap that needed some tightening. It felt like something from my student apartment days - or worse. The blinds looked like there had been a war fought in the room. Bathroom was no better - I shared that with a couple a spiders. Clean enough, but absolutely no place to put any toiletries. As well, the kitchen is stocked with leftover cups and dishes from someone's garage sale. If I want a cup of coffee, I'd like a big mug, not some tiny cup that I get 3 sips out of. Two extremely small TVs in the place - one in the bedroom, one in main area - both relics from the 1990s. But no worries, you don't need a fancy TV as only basic cable is available. No HD channels, no movie channels (aside from basic cable movies). Internet was unreliable - down three times in a long weekend stay. I kept having to text the staff, who would then contact the owner to reset the modem. Breakfast was not offered because of Covid 19 pandemic, but even at the reduced rate, I would not stay here again. I prefer to watch a TV that I don't need binoculars to view, a couch that I don't hit the floor when I sit in it, a bathroom with storage for toiletries, reliable internet, and a functional kitchen with some real coffee cups and counter space.

Small room with no space to walk. They call it bed and breakfast and ask you to pay for breakfast. Expedia booking never had a choice to exclude breakfast like they claim. Located in a old house with rooms adjacent to each other. Noise in one room can be heard in the other. Located close to busy Cambie street with noise of traffic all night. They don’t clean your room until you leave. Price of room is higher than normal hotel rooms. If you have a car stay in a normal hotel. Don’t waste time on this one.

So I will have to eat my mistake of 250.00, so I am just saying get a map out first before booking the bed and bre, akfast.

"Gita" very friendly, warm and kindness. We've stayed as our own home. It's a beautiful house has a big dining room and very clean bedroom. The breakfast was good for me, I love a bottle of herbs juice. She made for guests in every morning. I love the location because it's in resident area not in downtown but on the street not far from MRT/bus stop. So,easy to go to downtown.
