One of the best small town Motels we have visited in NZ. Greeting by Caroline was easy and pleasant with a choice of rooms available. Units were clean and tidy and well presented with snacks on the table and great cosmetics in the bathroom. Unit had spa bath and good quality towelling. Would recommend this motel.

Tairoa Lodge was a great find in Hawera. On the edge of town, set in lovely grounds, a beautifully restored colonial house, has all that is needed for a comfortable stay. We had pre-dinner drinks in front of a fire, followed by an excellent dinner. Breakfast the next morning set us up for the day.

Nice for the relative peace and farm animals. The Wi-Fi is non existent. Torture by water drip noises in the night from the toilet. We had to hang towels over the glass doors to try to block out the outside light. We booked a room and paid extra for it specifically to have a room with a bath, but the bath had a whole load of hair in it, so we weren’t prepared to use it. The front office upon check in was awash with printouts of invoices and emails, I could read the bills of dozens of people, zero data protection. The room is nice enough, but the crockery is tiny, there’s a check list on the cupboard stating how many items of crockery and cutlery there are, and a notice about not stealing them. I can’t imagine anyone hard up enough to steal the crappy cutlery and crockery in this place. I’ve stayed in worse places, but all of them cost less than this.

Forget Furlong

We booked and paid online for 2 nights. Could not check in properly as reception had very limited open times. We were informed the restaurant was closed and had been for months (not mentioned on the website). The Long Stay guests were noisy, some drinking from 10am, and there was no consideration for any other guests. We did not stay the second night,
