Oygarden Salmon Centre

Have you ever visited a floating fish farm? We promise a fascinating experience for anyone interested in Norway’s famous seafood. Imagine the sea boiling as 100,000 feisty trout fight over breakfast! The tour starts in what once was an old saltery, with a photographic introduction to the life of a fish. Then there’s a trip in an open boat to the floating farm, where you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the modern, full-scale commercial operation. You’ll gain insight into the operation through an exhibition of installations, diagrams and films. If there’s anything you’re wondering about, someone at the facility will be happy to quench your curiosity. How did do the fish get here? What do the fish eat each day? How big are they, and when will they be ready to eat? You can wander along the suspended walkways between the cages and ponder how many dinners there are in the dark depths of the tanks. Is it really true that this single farm produces more food than all the cattle farms in Argentina? Find the answers at the salmon centre whilst also getting a taste of oygarden’s interesting coastal culture and history. At the Coastal Museum you can learn about the history of resources in oygarden over the past 10,000 years. If you want to extend your stay, enjoy a ride on an ocean safari in the open sea beyond oygarden. The boat can accommodate up to 12 passengers. FACILITIES A spectacular ocean safari on a 13 seater speed boat. Cafe at the Coastal Museum serving different varieties of salmon and trout. A meeting room is available for hire at the Salmon Centre.

Norwegian Petroleum Museum

A Dynamic Museum for a Dynamic IndustryNorwegian Petroleum Museum is a museum for everyone. Its exhibits explain how oil and gas are created, disovered and produced, and what they are used for. The museum also provides informastion about technological advances and the way petroleum influences Norwegian society. Original objects, models, films and interactive exhibits illustrate everything from everyday life offshore to technology and dramatic incidents. The curious cat Petro serves as a guide through the museum's science centre. The museum was designed by architects Lunde & Løvseth, and is an attraction in itself. Its architecture is a scenographic interpretation of the Norwegian bedrock, the open coastal landscape and the offshore oil installations. Architechtural reviews have said that there is hardly a building in Norway which signals its function as obviously as the Norwegian Petroleum Museum. The museum was opened in 1999.

This was a bit pricier than we thought but then all of Norway is pricey really and overall we couldn’t have been happier with our day at the science center. My kids had so much fun exploring and trying all the exhibits and we adults had fun too. There’s a small cafe on site and a nice park across the street. It is a bit out of the way but a real gem. You won’t be disappointed
