Had an amazing afternoon for our friends birthday! Vicky was very helpful and informative, she made sure we knew everything about different pottery painting techniques to make sure each one of us would be happy with their result! Such an affordable activity for hours of fun, came home the week after with a beautiful vase I was very proud of! Thank you again, we will be back!

The Painting Pottery Cafe

We are just a short walk from the train Station, in the North Laine area of Brighton. We love to help individuals or groups spend an hour or two in our fun creative environment. You can choose from 100s of ceramic items to paint or try your hand at throwing a pot. Everyone, no matter their age or ability, enjoys their experience and has something handmade and unique to show for it. If you are not local then we can post your items or you can use acrylic paints for decorative pieces and take away the same day. We also hold exhibitions from local makers and artists. Booking advisable.

My boyfriend bought us evening class spaces to make soup bowl and garnish bowls. This was a loose theme - you were encouraged to get as creative as you wanted with the design and function of the bowls. We got to try different styles of pottery making with pinch pot creations, mould made bowls and we got to learn the basics of pottery wheels and 'throw' our own bowl/mug/jug. I found the pottery making evening one of the most relaxing things I've done in a long time. There was no pressure of be good first time - there was as much clay as you wanted and needed and no time pressure, the evening didn't feel rushed at all. We went back a few weeks later and got paint our pieces and we are very happy with the results! The staff were so friendly, welcoming and encouraging to everyone, it was a lovely atmosphere to learn in.

My name is Ronald Raymond McDonald - seriously! I'm from Belize, where luckily for me there were no McDonald's restaurants, but plenty of wonderful music. I grew up playing my cultural drums - the Garifuna drums - and singing and dancing to our enchanting rhythms. In Belize, I started Warasa Garifuna Drum School, a 5* rated TA attraction. I'm now living with my wife in Brighton, but my dedication to my culture continues, and I'm now offering small group drum lessons on Brighton sea front.
