Decent enough hotel & fab staff, just a shame about food and drink

Reviewed By Scattynat1

My family and I stayed at the hotel for a couple of nights and found the rooms lovely and clean, the facilities nice, and the staff excellent. Sadly the hotel loses the extra stars due to the exceptionally overpriced and poor quality food and the prices of drinks. £4 for a glass of lemonade really isn’t justified! I would recommend staying at this hotel but just go out to eat & drink.

A welcoming feel

Reviewed By S7629YIsophiet

Extremely friendly staff, and a lovely overall feel. Excellent location, 10 mins from station and 20 mins from Castle/Abbey Fields. Bathroom a bit shabby. Our ground floor room was comfy but was next to the fire exit, and we were woken by someone going out, banging it and starting a van outside, v early both mornings. Breakfast: unlimited cereals, fruit, toast, plus usual cooked stuff, made to order. I'd go back to try the Malaysian restaurant.

The Old Bakery

Whether you are staying overnight in the immaculate accommodation or enjoying a drink in the relaxed friendly bar you will experience a warm welcome and level of service at The Old Bakery you rarely find, in this era of faceless hotel chains and conveyor belt service. We are situated in the old town part of Kenilworth near Kenilworth Castle, Stoneleigh Park and the University of Warwick. We are particular about our accommodation, proud of our freshly cooked breakfasts and passionate about our bar.

Kind hearts and coronets.

Great, what appears to be a small old former bakery with shop style frontage. However they have 19 comfortable rooms. Fabulous location in the old part of the town, bars and eating places all close by. The castle down the road. The town is a pleasant 10 mins walk through Abbey Fields.Exceptiona locationl.Well recommended.

Ok hotel, horrible room.

The staff were pleasant and helpful and the room itself was adequate but the location of the room was awful. It was on the second floor at the back of the hotel, overlooking a giant skip and dirty laundry piles. To get to the room was convoluted; along endless corridors and up random stairs with no obvious sequence of rooms. A generator or similar was noisy all night, meaning it was impossible to open the windows. Shower was good and all other amenities were too but if you are offered room 234 or nearby- ask for a different one as it let this hotel down.

Abbeyfield

A character Pub ...

Reviewed By machinmad

An old building, with lots of character, in the old town, the stairs to the first floor are practically vertical. Our room was small, but perfectly clean and tidy for a short stay. Everything worked in the bathroom, but it was old fashioned; the extractor-fan wasn’t powerful enough to clear the shower steam. Breakfast was poor … they didn’t have any basics like brown bread, yogurts, tomatoes and butter. The poor waitress apologised about the "supplier problems" and was run off her feet. We paid a relatively budget price and got a very budget experience, so can’t complain. But there's no excuse for such a poor breakfast; buy food locally if your wholesale supplier lets you down!

The Plough Inn

Stay elsewhere if you want a good nights rest

Reviewed By Mak B

Stayed at the Plough Inn / Tipperary Inn in Kenilworth for 1 night. Evening meal was good, I had chicken with chips/salad. Quite an ambient restaurant and friendly staff. Breakfast was nice , full English. This was offset however by the 1 night stay in the room, which is above the pub. Room and bathroom were very small but seemed to have all I needed and looked fairly recently refurbished. The biggest off-putting thing was the poorly insulated windows, which allowed all the cold and traffic noise to come through. The cold I managed to get over by turning the heating up, however this place is near a busy road with vehicles travelling 40-50mph. This is SO noisy, and I had to stuff cotton wool in my ears to try to get some sleep. The next day I had to work locally followed by a long drive back to London, I had a very restless nights sleep and staying in this place was a bad choice. Would not stay here again for this reason.
