Hakuna Lodge

The grounds border a tidal river for over 10 hectares where more than 10,000 trees have been planted (Filaos, Cordias, Flamboyants, Olocericeas, Niaoulis, Prosopices, Cotonniers) Situated 140 km to the south of Dakar, between the ancient Sine and Saloum rivers, on the edge of Saloum Delta National Park, HAKUNA LODGE basks in a haven of peace between the Atlantic ocean and continental Africa. From Dakar, a 3 hour drive brings you to our private landing where a local pirogue waits for a 35 minute crossing that will immerse you in the calm of mangrove forests before dropping you at the main lodge

relaxing, rustic get-a-way in the mangroves

The boat ride to and from the property is half the fun! Very relaxing, low key spot in the delta. Went with friends with kids, they managed to make friends with other kids and play together while the adults snoozed in the hammocks on the beach. My friends took the kids on a fishing trip and had a blast. Stand up paddle board and kayaking also provided entertainment. Food was fine and served in an open air canteen setting where we all sat at long tables with the other groups of guests. Staff was very responsive and kind. The bungalows and open air bathrooms were quaint. No hot water. Rooms were clean and had a standing fan and bed nets. Sound carries pretty easily from surrounding bungalows, but folks around me quieted down by 10 PM so it didn't disrupt my sleep. This was great for a long weekend, easy to get to from Dakar. Great value for money; the 5* rating signifies the quality of the stay given the cost rather than luxuriousness. Was great to be able to bring my dog. Would definitely return.

Nguel du Saloum - Ecotourism - Mar Lodj

We're a family that have started up a small rural and eco - hotel next to the sea to welcome guests in our home. We offer 4 rooms simple and comfortable, and also different activities to discover the surroundings of the fantastic place of Mar Lodj. We love being very close to everyone visiting us, and it's important for us to minimize our impact on the social and natural environment.

Le Bazouk Du Saloum

Beautiful place, but...

Reviewed By Anders V

Beautiful location, nice staff, clean, calm, no annoying music, good food, basic clean accommodation. But.. no coffee? No Senegalese juices? No fruit? Did I say no coffee? (Nescafe is served) And no ACs - which was perfectly fine in the month of January, but could be an issue in the summer. But perhaps allow for the all solar approach = no noisy generators. So, its a GREAT 2/3 star place. Great! But Im a five star person who can only afford four stars. However I went there with my visiting mum, who absolutely LOVED the place and wants to go back. So if you are into beautiful location, nice staff, calm and relaxing environment and arent addicted to caffeine you would be well advised to go here.

Had the chance to stay at Kikeliba lodge for 2.5 weeks (1.5 working remotely & 1 week off), a perfect combination in such a lovely & peaceful environment! If you are looking for an inspiring desk to work remotely, Kikeliba lodge is highly recommended as internet connexion is really reliable. Hosts (Sophie & JJ) will make everything to make you feel home & you can have access to many outdoors activities outside the lodge. You will come back fully energized after a stay there.

Needs an update

Reviewed By Patrick B

Friendly and welcoming staff and great location on the river. Also decent food throughout the day. However, the rooms are in dire need of an update. Friends had a leaking roof, we had a shower without an shower head and a toilet that did not work. On top of that electricity was extremely unreliable and, hence, fans did not work all night.
