Comfortable in peaceful location

Reviewed By AnnBlacksea

I would rate this hotel as good. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The decor is a little old fashioned. The hotel is located in a quiet area of the village in the beautiful countryside just a couple of mins drive from hattusas. The hot water was tepid and that could be as the hotel was almost empty. The breakfast was plentiful with a good selection of food. The hotel served our purpose of spending one night in the area to visit the historic sites.

The hotel is very different from what the reviews from years ago make it to be

Reviewed By 2HungryWanderers

Maybe years ago this hotel was a good option, but not anymore, I will explain why. We had a bad experience there, which turned even worse later, the last paragraph of my review is the deep end. Trying to benefit from the convenient location they want to charge high rates, but the conditions are below average. The hotel itself is not well maintained, the room wasn't very clean and some small things need repairs. The main reason is that the current manager is not the person who built and looked after the hotel years ago. We also had dinner at the hotel, a big mistake - a tasteless dish made from something frozen came with a price tag of a nice meal in a major city. During the short hours of our stay, we had several encounters with the manager, who told us the sad story of his brother and father dying recently. At one point he made a huge scene as some local people had parked in "his" spot - banging doors, shouting, etc. Another issue was that "his price" was different from the one we had booked online, but the difference was 1 EUR, so I just let it slide. He had the audacity to tell the booking site that I had requested a room upgrade to justify the price change, as the amount was so tiny I didn't even bother to discuss it. Even after all those issues, I left him a short review on the booking site with a higher rating than deserved - a generous 4/10, I didn't even go into details. And that's where the situation took a sharp turn. The manager began sending me insults and demands to delete my review. As I did not delete the review he went absolutely mental. He kept sending insults covering not just me, but my wife, family, country and my country's main religion. Then he began with the threats. He showed me that he had my profile pic (it's public) and he told me that he has notified the police, army and several embassies (where he has friends) that I am a terrorist. And yes, I do realise that this person has my personal details, including my passport. I filed a formal complaint with the hotel booking site, but there is nothing they can do.

Not Exactly a Luxury Hotel But Not Bad Either

Reviewed By Jonathan G

I was the only person staying here one night in October 2017. When I arrived the power was off, so the owner gave me a flashlight to find my way around the room, and a portable space heater for the room for when the power did come on. No television, and the bathroom had that remarkable Middle Eastern feature of a "shower" that deposits water straight onto the floor. But my sleep was restful, and my host got up early to specially make my breakfast the next morning. It set me up for a wonderful day exploring Hattusa.

Ottoman stew full of gristle

Reviewed By TwixtTwain

The set lunch for our tour group featured Ottoman Stew - braised eggplant in a casserole dish that included a couple pieces of meat gristle. There was poor quality "french" baguette instead of fresh Turkish bread. The "Marriage" soup was served tepid or cold.

Look around before staying here

These two hotels (across street from each other & owned by same famlly) have mixed reviews. Though the family was very nice & tried to be helpful, we can't recommend it; this is a large complex & apparently much busier during the tourist season; there were only 3 guests total and we made up 2 of them so felt not particularly important; we had made a reservation on-line & arrived to be told that price was only for a tiny, downstairs room w/2 twin beds; room upstairs much more expensive without breakfast; eventually they agreed to include breakast though it didn't amount to much (worse we had in 3 weeks traveling throughout Turkey); during our 2 night stay we never had hot water; they did offer us use of shower in a room across street in the other hotel (we didn't do this; felt like hassle in cold, rainy weather & wanted hot water to wash hands not just shower); refused to discount price; dinners were OK but very limited offerings for vegetarians & they kept trying to serve us meat after we repeatedly told them (English & Turkish) we didn't eat meat; the grounds are well kept, rooms very plain & very cold even with heat; was cold while we were there & rooms didn't warm up during day; heater was located high on the wall & didn't heat the room very well; good location for exploring the ruins; very nice walk & great little museum; we didn't realize there were other hotels up in the town & along the road to Hittusa so suggest checking around; ruins were great!
