January 15, 2018 Deane Carmody

Lamlash (Never Ending Lash)(Scottish Gaelic: An t-Eilean Àrd) is the largest village by population on the Isle of Arran, in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. It lies 4 miles to the south of ferry port Brodick, in a sheltered bay on the island's east coast, facing Holy Isle. Lamlash is the seat of Arran's local government offices and police. The only secondary school and only hospital in Arran are also located in Lamlash.

Arran in Focus

Arran in Focus offers full and half day photography tours and workshops for beginners and more advanced enthusiasts. The most popular workshop is 'Get off Auto' which combines relaxed teaching while going out and about on a mini tour. Other workshops include 'Wild about water', which looks at how to photograph water and create lovely silky ribbons and 'Up close with macro', looking specifically at close up techniques for flowers and insects. Workshops and wildlife tours are tailor made to fit the group or individual so that everyone achieves their own goal. A tour or workshop will run with just one person or up to a maximum of 4 people. Participants can bring their own camera or book one belonging to the business. Additional equipment such as tripods and filters are available for use by all students. Family and group discounts available.

Recently attended a half day workshop (turned out only to be myself) with Jackie. We went over to the Kildonan area/bay to look at composition and the use of filters (I'd brought a few along with we). Lots of interesting subject matter, sea, shore, rocks, waterfall etc ... It was a nice relaxed day just talking about photography, Jackie was great at explaining things and allowing me to explore my own ideas. Would recommend to any level of photographer. We also had the bonus of seeing two otters as well!

Had the most delightful afternoon on the Holy Isle walking along the shore line, drinking from the Healing Spring, listening to the peace and quiet. The complimentary tea and biscuits afterwards were delicious and we were very grateful for them. Thank you for sharing your sacred place with us. Namaste xx

We tried to go out on a wildlife safari with Lucy back in June but she was fully booked so we went back to Arran is week and we can see why she is in such demand.
She tailored the day to meet our needs and we spotted 9 otters from a couple of close together locations. With a small amount of walking we also saw a couple of golden eagles. She has some fantastic knowledge but doesn't go overly geeky if you don't want her to. Her knowledge includes the wildlife, obviously, but also geology and geography.
She's also humorous and great fun to be with for a full day's safari.
Bear in mind that wildlife is not predictable so you may or may not spot something. We saw most of the things we wanted to, except red squirrels.
Superb day, superb guide.
