Northern Rock Hotel

Dissapointed and dirty

Reviewed By ellyzambia2015

I have stayed here quite a few times as the location is great for travel between lusaka and nsumbu. It has been getting worse each visit. For k960 a night the room had cockeroaches, dirty bathroom with insects and ant nests and the aircon didnt work well with no remote. I did book in advance so our arrival was expected. I dont think i would return again after this experience. On the good side the breakfast is quite good. Just wanted to let the management know, sorry to post a bad review.

We loved our 4 days at Ndole Bay. The fishing trip, relaxing at the beach in the shade, enjoying the new and beautifully designed lounge and dining area, the comfortable chalet, and not to forget lovely hosts and inspiring conversations. It is a long trip up there but so worth it!

Isanga Bay Lodge

There are 3 chalets on the beach that have a beach and lake view (people with children love them, because the kids can go early morning and play in the sand without supervision) The 3 rondavels on the other side have no beach, but overlook the rocks with amazing views out to the Lake. These chalets are built with rock and are thatched. The Lodge sleeps only 20 people and all rooms are a couple of minutes away from the beach. Each chalets has an en suite bathroom with hot and cold water shower and toilet. There are no power points, however, we do have a facility to charge phones, lap tops, cameras, etc. We have no TV as we are deep in the bush and besides, you won't need one! The lodge offer bed and breakfast with an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. Our specialty is delicious fresh fish from the lake - Nile perch and Nkupi (Yellow belly, a type of bream). We have an extensive bar with very reasonable prices.

A little tired

I understand that covid has really affected tourism all over the world so the fact that the beachside chalet was looking like it needed a bit of maintenance is ok, but the fact that there was quite a lot of litter lying around in the grounds of the lodge should not happen. Out host Yolande was very friendly and welcoming and the dinner prepared for us was good & the staff very friendly. Beware the portions are large but tasty! If you are coming in by road the first half the drive from the turnoff is mostly good with a portion having been quite recently graded and maintained - the 2nd half his steep, rocky and rutted in parts & there are may villages and people along the way. As someone in a previous review said the noise from the fishing village on the perimeter is pretty constant through the night, The view of the lake from the chalet was great & the beach was well maintained.

Any port in a storm

Reviewed By pagoda2014

Given the location (on the road to Tanzania) this is a welcome stopping place and watering hole. The rooms are generally clean and the wildlife is mainly down to the odd small cockroach. As it is not surrounded by greenery mosquitoes are rare but bed nets are provided. Water is hot and plentiful, this year, which was not the case last year, so improvements have been made. Breakfast is included which comprises two slices of bread and an egg, with tea or coffee. You can pay more for cereals etc. You can also have lunch and dinner there. It often gets full , as Mpika is developing, so you may need to book ahead (the president's entourage filled the place last week, for example!).
