6 Food Tours in Vancouver That You Shouldn't Miss

May 21, 2022 Hana Mouser

Vancouver was founded as “Gastown” by an Englishman with a penchant for beer and storytelling. Today Gastown is a historic section of the Canadian metropolis, and the lively pubs still reflect the area’s former status as a sort of community drinking center. The city’s forests, grand parks, and impressive suspension bridge beckon travelers to explore them, as do the city’s shops and museums. Relive the glory of the 2010 Winter Games with visits to Olympic venues and the marvelous Olympic Cauldron.

Our guide, Liam was very knowledgeable and friendly. I guarantee we would not have found these restaurants on our own and each stop was better than the last. It wasn't too much walking at all, but the Gas Light area where we was clean and interesting. I would recommend taking one of these tours especially if you like adventurous eating. (It was also a good way to scope out some shopping sites as you walked to the next stop)

It was my partner's birthday and I was struggling to find something we could do that would bring his friends together but in a way that was social distanced and safe. Forbidden Walking Tours to the rescue! They don't normally operate on Monday's but I emailed the to see if I could arrange a private tour. They were incredibly accommodating. The tour has been adapted to be fully outside and they are following provincial orders by ensuring that all guests stay distanced and are wearing masks. The staff even helped to organize keeping it a surprise from my partner which was greatly appreciated. Our guide was terrific, adaptable (they were filming a tv show in the area so he had to work around the film crews) and it was so great to hear some interesting tales about the city that we call home. And if you're concerned at all about weather, don't be. You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance. Can't recommend highly enough. Everyone in our group had a great time. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

We spent two great hours touring Gastown with our host, Sean. We visited 6-8 restaurants and each one was excellent, many of which we will go back to. Although we are locals, we learned a lot about Gastown. The pace of the trip was just right, enough time at each location to savour and then on to the next stop. We finished the tour with full tummies and thankful for an afternoon we'd love to repeat.
