The hike to the top of the volcano was amazing. You transition from the normal, Greek countryside to lava rocks and boulders. Beware that people who climb to the top need to be very careful of their footing! Probably not great for small children but my friends and I certainly enjoyed it.

Drove by the village on the way to the volcano. It is simply beautiful, hidden in the Mountains and covered by Forests. Great experience and worth a visit while going to visit the volcano. There are many walking/ hiking paths.

Methana Volcanic Spa

Reviewed By Alex H - Milan, Italy

The Methana peninsula is a sleeping volcano surrounded by the blue of the Aegean sea and connected to the Mainland of Peloponnese only by a narrow road.
We always try to find places in the world where there are natural Springs to have Spa vacations and incredibly in this small town there are two!
One at the entrance of the village with sulphured waters and the second at the end with radioactive and a lot of spa and beautuy treatments.!
Both o them are in front of two lovely pebble Beaches and in summer there is a minibus that connect the hotels to the spa in order not to get tired walking under the sun after therapies.
Not only, in front of the the first one there is a small beach with a stair that permits you to bath in the sulphured water mixed with the salted water of the sea (free of charge). The prices of the two Spa are very reasonable: 7 for a bath and 10 for a hydromassage.
We tried also the Cleopatra hydromassage at 30€ and after we felt our legs so light and tonic that, despite the 36 degrees outside, we had the sensational feeling of walking on feathers.
My wife and I were a little bit doubtful if it would be a good thing to let you know our discovery but, Tripadvisor is an ….advisor and thanks to it we went in places that someone else has reviewed .
That’s why instead to keep the secret we wrote it hoping you will appreciate it but please…..leave a room for us next August!
Have a look to the site and try to go once out of the beaten tourist tracks! http://www.methana.gr/index.php/en

Cave Peristeri

Reviewed By Tomek86 - Copenhagen, Denmark

The cave is totally wild, unprepared and very hard to visit, hidden behind rocks etc.
If you are in a good shape it is not that difficult to reach and go down, but it can get steep and slippery.
I totally loved it. It's one of those things that make you feel proud when you reach it.
The sign to the cave is barely seen on the road towards Vathy.
There are 3 areas/rooms of the cave, but it is only possible to reach the first one.
To reach the third you need to swim or have a small boat cause it's totally covered by water.
There's also not too much light so a good flashlight is recommended.
If you are in the area and like caves this is a MUST visit.

Pausanias Baths

Reviewed By Tomek86 - Copenhagen, Denmark

While visiting Methana we decided to visit the Pausanias Bath which is in the north part of the peninsula.
The thermal water is heated by the volcano which is nearby but I've read that it sometimes can let out some dangerous fumes/ gas that can actually cause death. Locals go there with a candle- if the candle fire goes out that means the gas is dangerous and you have to leave the water.
The water is between 25- 37 degrees (Celsius).
Unfortunately the story of death and the little basin with the water are not too appealing to get inside the water plus when I was there I did try theory with the candle and it did work. The candle was going off when I bowed down closer to the water.
It is nice to see it but quite a bittersweet feeling while there.
