This is a really beautiful and interesting stop in Kahta. But without doing your research beforehand it will just look like a beautiful monument. There are also few people who speak anything other then turkish or Kurdish so there are no guides around to get information from. Still worth the visit! Quite a beautiful area!

We tried to access the Arsameia (Eski Kale) ruins from Karadut where we were staying, but when the road became very rough and steep with hairpin bends, we were wary about taking our hire car down (and especially up) the road, so we abandoned the trip.
However, on leaving Karadut the following day, we noticed signs from the village of Narince for Arsameia (heading towards Kahta) and we took this road instead. Although we had to pay the entrance fee to Mount Nemrut National Park again (12 Turkish Lira per person) we were pleased that we did.
We arrived just after 8.00 and had the place to ourselves. There is a small cafe (and toilets) at the start of the stony path to the stone reliefs. At the the first large stele (depicting Mithras or Apollo) the views of the surrounding countryside are beautiful.
Further up the path the amazingly intact relief of Mithridates shaking hands with Hercales is rather impressive; as are the Greek inscriptions above the entrance to the cave. However, due to the position of the sun, you may get better photos in the afternoon rather than early morning.
Although we walked above this relief to the ruins of the city - there is nothing to see - other than more beautiful views of the countryside and surrounding Valleys.
We were pleased not to have missed Arsameia but if travelling independently, we would definitely recommend the route from Kahta rather than Karadut.

There is no castle in Kahta. 'Kahta Castle' is in the small village of Eski Kahta (which is very close to Arsameia) and is otherwise known as Yeni Kale (see separate review) which is all very confusing!
The castle is still closed for renovation, therefore, there is no access to it. We did get some good photos, however, of the unrenovated part of the castle from the approach road. Therefore, it may be worth a quick detour if you're on your way to Arsameia and/or Mount Nemrut and you want to get some quick snaps.

We were unable to access the castle which is perched on a cliff as it was covered in scaffolding and clearly being renovated. However, from what we could see through our binoculars, the new stonework doesn't appear to be in keeping with the orginal ruins (we've seen a few examples of unsympathetic renovations during our tour of Turkey).
However, the village of Eski Kahta, where Yeni Kale is located, is very close to the Arsameia ruins and therefore not much of a detour. As you approach the castle by road, it's possible to get some good photos of a section of the castle which is not being renovated.
